Reminder of the soul Proton ripped out of Lumo in 2.0

Well... I am still reeling from this 2.0 design overhaul.

When Proton first launched Lumo, they published a whole design blog post explicitly promising to move away from the "cold and impersonal" feel of Big Tech AI. They literally wrote:

>"We wanted a name that would resonate with everyone... just like the name we might give to our own cat... curious, intelligent, and attentive... ready to assist you with a warm smile."

They even built an entire asset sheet of incredibly expressive "Lumojis" (the blushing cheeks, the binary glasses, the little curved collar with the dynamic padlock bell). It had genuine personality and dimension.

Fast forward to the 2.0 launch and their enterprise push at Infosecurity Europe. They completely sanitized the design to fit a corporate boardroom:

  • The soft, chubby-cheeked silhouette is flattened into a rigid geometric wedge.
  • The curious, wide eyes are stretched into an intense, unblinking, aggressive stare.
  • The iconic padlock bell is shrunken down and flattened like a cheap sticker.

Proton, please listen to the community and walk this back. Bring back the soul (and the chubby cheeks) of the 1.3 cat!

"Get help with Lumo" new Proton account recovery support assistant

From what I've seen, it appears to be a Lumo instance with a second system prompt on top. Also, it doesn't have direct access to anything; i.e. a knowledge base search engine with natural language.
