Proposal: Proton Meet 2-3 hours meeting duration for unlimited and duo users?

I understand why Proton Meet has to cost something for professional use. But ever since its release, I haven’t been able to get past the fact that Proton Unlimited and Proton Duo users have the same experience (1-hour meeting limit) as free users.

Are there plans to extend the meeting duration for Unlimited and Proton Duo users to at least 2–3 hours in the future? So that the service stands out from the free version, at least?

Simplify mail and calendar access in the Linux app

Hi,

could you please improve this workaround when switching between mail and calendar in the Linux app?

It would be much more practical if the mail and calendar icons weren't hidden behind the single button.

Please think about it. Thanks

Will I no longer be able to use ProtonMail if C-22 goes through?

I'm a Canadian, recently found out about C-22 and am concerned I will lose access to my email if it goes through. Proton is adamant they will not compromise their no log policy (which I agree with ofc) but all my accounts rely on my protonmail account.

Am I overreacting or is this a valid concern?

Aliases query

Hi. I've just got Unlimited. I'm trying Email Aliases in Pass. When I try to set up an alias, it generates a random alias address and just below it on the setup page, it has a "forward to" email address that has auto-filled. This is the same as my Proton email address but with one character missing, ie its a different address. Is this a typo mistake or should it be different from my usual proton address? Hope that makes sense.

I’m the Product Manager on Proton Calendar, here’s what we’re working on and why it’s taking time

Hi everyone,

I’m the Product Manager working on Proton Calendar 👋

I wanted to jump in personally because I know Calendar is not where it needs to be today.

And I really do mean personally. I’m one of those slightly obsessive calendar people. My calendar is not just for meetings. It has errands, laundry days, reminders, tasks, focus blocks, etc.. because apparently I enjoy being managed by my past self.

So when Calendar is slow, buggy, missing search/offline/tasks, or generally makes it harder to plan your day, I feel that pain too.

The honest answer is that we are currently rebuilding Proton Calendar from the ground up across iOS, Android, and Web. This is our next-generation Calendar architecture, based on lessons from our previous Mail rewrite. The goal is to fix the foundational shortcomings rather than keep adding patches on top of an experience that needs a stronger base.

The main things we are working toward are:

  • Better performance and offline support, so that actions like creating or editing events can work even without connectivity.
  • Search, so you can find events quickly.
  • A more modern and responsive UI.
  • An improved Agenda / Schedule view.
  • A bunch of other improvements like opening event locations in your preferred maps app.

We are still shipping improvements to the current application where it makes sense. For example, we recently made it possible on Android to set Proton Calendar as your default calendar app on supported devices. We also launched appointment scheduling on Web because it did not require any mobile changes.

But for the biggest pain points the real fix is the next-generation Calendar.

Timelines are always tricky, especially with a rewrite of this scale, so I want to avoid over-promising exact dates. Our current plan is to make the next-generation Calendar available before the end of the year, starting with a beta / early access phase so we can gather feedback before replacing the current experience.

Thank you for bearing with us. I know it has been frustrating, and I really appreciate everyone who continues to give detailed feedback. The team is genuinely passionate about making Proton Calendar a much stronger product, and I’ll try to be more present here to answer questions where I can 😄

When did you first join ProtonMail?

I was going through my emails doing some cleanup and came across my "Welcome to ProtonMail" email back in 2015!!! It sat dormant for a year or two before I finally started using it and had to change my p/w getting a new key lol so I can't even read those welcome messages.

But it got me thinking, how early did some of you all join the movement in adopting Proton?! Pretty cool to see how far they've come in the last decade. Kudos to the team!

It was 2015 for me!

How The Cartels Are Winning the Digital Drug War | Proton Data Wars | VICE News

When we think about the War on Drugs, we tend to picture police kicking down doors or busting dealers on the street. But these days, the drug war is just as much about huge networks of surveillance, data analysis and digital espionage. And this spying isn’t just being carried out by the cops.

Made by Proton, Data War is a series investigating the hidden battles shaping our digital world from mass surveillance and cybercrime to the fight for privacy and human rights online. As governments, corporations and criminals battle for control of our data, the series reveals why digital freedom, personal privacy and the tools we use to protect ourselves have never mattered more.

In this episode we’re looking at how Mexican drug cartels are hacking US law enforcement, monitoring entire cities through their CCTV system – and importing cutting edge military technology from the world’s deadliest war zone.

How to use aliases without being tied to a service?

Currently using my domain with proton mail. I'm new to aliases and want to start using them, but don't simplelogin aliases tie you to that service? One of the main points of a custom domain is so that I'm not tied to any service.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Shoutout Proton for being like the only company that cares about existing customers nowadays lol

I know 15GB isn't crazy (it kinda is) but it's nice to see a company actually appreciate its existing customers nowadays. Just about every other company is hell bent on acquiring new users nowadays and they just forget about existing ones. In so many cases, you're actually better off jumping ship constantly than sticking with them.

It's random and some of you might think it's not anything crazy, but I appreciated this. Proton isn't flawless (looking at you Proton Drive photos backup) but I'm glad I picked a company like this

Import 100,000 emails into Proton

Hi,

New proton user here (paid version on Windows).

I have a large collection of past mailboxes that I use as archives but I need to access them semi regularly. So far I was using thunderbird straight out of the .mbox filtes but it's quite slow and only accessible on my computer.

I was hoping to transfer all those emails on proton with bridge on IMAP. Turns out it's incredibly unreliable and slow. Even a batch of 500 crashes after 200ish emails. And it takes 2-3 seconds per email.

Is there any other way to import those .mbox files into proton? (I don't mind if it's slow and takes days, but I don't want to have to manually intervene every 5 minutes because it crashes or have ot break it into 10,000 batches)

Thanks

open source alternative for tasks in google calendar

I just started using proton calendar. In general the app seems to be fine, although I haven't used it enough to make a good judgment yet. Something I missed immediately is it not having a tasks function. I would like to have an open source tasks managing solution that works within the same app as my agenda. Any recommendations or solutions?

Official Proton TUI client

For us terminal hounds, it'd be cool to have an official TUI client for Proton Mail. Things like aerc exist, but they require additional setup with Proton Bridge as well as a Plus subscription to access bridge.

New to protonmail and loving it so far!

i signed up to proton unlimited a few weeks ago and have been importing my other email addresses into it and slowly deleting/unsubscribing to things i don't need.

At work my inbox is immaculate and i really wanna get there will all my real life stuff.

i've signed up to a few newsletters im interested in, but they always get buried in all the junk mail. My plan is to try get my newsletters to filter into a folder that i can read through once a month - has anyone else set something like this up?

i would like to add a fun profile pic one day, so i hope they allow that feature in future

i haven't taken a deep dive into the drive or calendar yet although from first glance they don't look very sexy lol.

Hoping the future updates planned for 2026 might help with that

How do I get started?

Hi everyone,

I currently need 2 accounts, and I might need 1 or 2 more. My domain is hosted with Strato, and the MX record already points to a different email provider.

Now I'm thinking about switching to Proton.

Mail Essentials should work.

The process for changing the MX record is well documented, but how do I get started?

Should I create a free account and then sign up for “Mail Essentials”? If I change the MX record, will the emails initially go to a catch-all account? The switchover will probably take a few hours to complete.

If I then set up the email addresses for the first “Mail Essentials” account, am I the admin for all subsequent accounts and can I create additional accounts and assign email addresses to them?

Can I also assign an email address to both accounts at the same time? Or do I need “Workspace Standard” for this project?

Also, I’d like to know if I can add email archiving as an add-on, or if it’s already included?

I contacted Proton and received a very automated response, but I had already found all that information myself. And they didn’t address the archiving issue at all.

Thank you very much!

Instagram doesn't allow proton emails for registration.

Fuck you Mark. Fuck you buddy.

But yeah, the first error message I got was that the code sent to my e-mail was expired. I thought huh, I guess that is a little fair because usually it takes a while for me to get the notification on my phone. Even then, it's not so long to the point where it'd get expired. At least 3-5 seconds max. There wasn't even a countdown or anything either.

Then I tried again, they sent another code, this one being a little faster, and then I got the error message saying that there was a problem signing up. Try again. Tried again, same error message. I tried with my google account, and it worked.

So yeah they've clearly blatantly done something to block Proton Mail, I guess they hate not having your personal information or something. Still though, had to sign up since being a creative these days require you to have Instagram...

The separation between My Files and My Computer is driving me nuts? (Proton Drive)

I just want a simple cloud backup, and Proton Drive feels way too complicated. I genuinely don’t understand the intended design behind this product.

I have multiple laptops, PCs, and phones, and all I want is a cloud drive where I can easily share and access files across devices. I recently started using Proton Drive since it’s included with the Unlimited plan, but honestly, it’s been really frustrating.

I don’t understand how people actually use this product. For example, I backed up a PDF from my phone, then tried to access it on my desktop, and the file literally doesn’t exist in the Proton Drive desktop app.

The file shows up on my phone under “My Files” in Proton Drive, but I can’t access it from the desktop app at all.

This was one of the features I was hoping to get real value from with the subscription, but now I’m seriously considering switching to another cloud drive.

Did they ever fix the sync speed issues with proton?

I saw 8 months ago on one of the proton subreddits that there were some synchronization issues where it is absurdly slow synchronizing across different PCs and the speed is just horrendously slow. I'm wondering if they ever fix this or if it's still just as slow? For some more information, I'm talking about if you have like a desktop computer and a laptop right, and you're using it just like Google drive and Gmail. Where you are syncing up your entire PC
