I submitted a passport updation application for OCI in May and my application # ends in M26. Not sure if it's because it was the first time I tried updating my passport details after I turned 20 and this was before the new rules came out, because my parents' applications end in U26. For paying the fee for passport updation, the VFS website says "Ensure your OCI application ends with 'U26' confirming it's a passport update request."

Has anyone else been in the same boat as me? What do I do in my situation since my application ends in M26? Based in NY.

I submitted a misc services application for passport updation (past the 90 days since my passport was renewed in 2024) back in May. The application status has finally changed to "pending" but I never got an email when I applied that my application is pending and that "there is no restriction on traveling pending update." Since I don't have that email, what do I do if I want to travel to India right now?

hi there, I’m hearing some people are not able to update their passport details online for OCI if it’s been more than 90 days since issuance of new passport. What to do in that situation (in USA)? If everything is now through OCI portal online do we still have to pay penalty for late update to VFS?

Also OCI rules say “OCI cardholders updating their passport particulars after obtaining a new passport on or after the age of 20 years are required to mandatorily update their biometric details at the concerns Indian mission/FRRO office or an at international airport during the next international travel.”

I don’t see any guidance about this online. What biometric details are required? Do we submit these details after our passport updation application is approved? Will we get a notification from the consultation to submit our biometrics? How does this work if we submit biometrics at an airport in the USA?

There is absolutely no information on this and even the OCI site itself says nothing about these new rules even though the Bureau of Immigration has announced this!!!

yesterday I hung out with a group of friends that I went to school with. We’re all pretty close. my two other friends who were there got invited to my other friend’s son’s 1st birthday party, which I was not invited to. this other friend was also there and acted like everything was fine and none of this happened. the birthday party was only raised because one of the two other friends gave this girl a present for her son as she was not able to make it to the party.

i was invited to and went to this girl’s wedding and baby shower. i was the one who last reached out to her at Thanksgiving and then didn’t hear from her since. Im not sure if I did anything to upset her but idk why I would be the only one out of this friend group to have not received an invite. she obviously doesn’t consider me to be as close as these other two girls I’m assuming, but this is bothering me and making me feel inferior. I feel like I’m always the friend left out of things.

should I confront my friend about this and ask her why I wasnt invited?

If you're submitting a passport updating application past the 90 day window, do the uploaded documents need to be self-attested? Also, does the completed application need to be mailed to VFS? NEW YORK.

It appears that following the launch of e-OCI, OCI cardholders no longer need to pay for or wait for a reissued physical booklet every time they get a new passport after turning 20.

While the mandatory OCI booklet reissue has been eliminated, I understand we still have to update the passport details on the OCI portal. However, does this requirement still involve payment of a late penalty/fine to VFS if not done within 90 days?

Also, if I previously filed the wrong type of application to complete the passport updation or didn't provide all of the right information, can I simply submit a new one instead of waiting for the application to get rejected?

So frustrating that these rules keep changing every other day. Based in NY, USA.

It's been at least 2-3 years since they got their new passports but only recently found out about requirements to update information online. They were not prompted to pay any fee on the OCI site. Is there something else that has to be done to get application approved? Is it on us to submit payment to VFS? Or is payment waived because it's been so long since they got their passports renewed? don't know what we have to do to get their applications approved!

edit: parents got their passports renewed after turning 50 and their passports are now different than the one linked to OCI. Some consulate sites say payment has to be made to VFS if update is made more than 3 months after issuance of new passports.

I got my OCI card when I was 16 years old. I am a US citizen and now 32 and have a different passport now than the one I applied for the OCI with. I just learned a month ago that you're supposed to get a new OCI card after turning 20 -- woops. I created an account on the OCI portal and uploaded all of my information but I'm beyond confused as to what to do next!!!

Upon submission of my application on the OCI portal, I got an automated email with my application number and a message saying "you are requested to visit NEW YORK CGI - USA along with originals of the supporting documents for prior verification." I also see this stated on the OCI Services website.

But everywhere else online it says that you're supposed to complete the application process with and send documentation to VFS to get a new OCI card. If this is what I have to do, what documents do I submit?

Do I visit the Consulate with the originals of supporting documents? If so, what originals do I bring? Or do I complete the VFS process? If I did the application incorrectly or if I want to resubmit can I do so??

I'm now also hearing that they're doing away with the paper requirement altogether??

What do I do?? Someone please explain this to me like I'm 5 years old lol. Any help would be much appreciated!! :)
