Stars down to 4.9

Hi all! I had maintained a 5-star rating on Rover, and after a recent review it dropped to 4.9, which has honestly been really stressful for me. This is my main job right now, and I care a lot about the work I do and always try my best with clients and their pets. I never want to place blame or act like I’m perfect, because I know there’s always room to improve, but I do feel discouraged by the situation.

The review came from a client who was very particular, and the issue at hand was that I didn’t clean the dogs bowl. The instructions I had been given were to feed the dog and head out afterward, so I genuinely didn’t realize that was expected. I’m mostly just wondering if there’s a way for my rating to go back up over time with more positive reviews, because I’ve worked really hard to maintain good relationships with clients and provide quality care.

Dogs not potty trained

So I was house sitting for a client who had 2 french bulldogs that were not potty trained AT ALL. I understand accidents happen, but this was far beyond that. There was constantly poop and pee all over the floors throughout the apartment that I had to clean🤢, despite 3 walks a day and there being pee pads available.

At one point I asked the owner about it because I was genuinely concerned something might be wrong, and he told me it was “normal” and that “that’s what the peepads are for.” ?? The issue was that the dogs were not even using the peepads. They were going to the bathroom all over the apartment and then tracking it around by stepping in it, then expected to sleep in the bed with me🤮🤮 It created an extremely unsanitary environment and made the stay very difficult to manage. It was only 3 days thankfully but felt like forever.

Has anyone experienced something like this? I will not be sitting for them again.

Surprise person in the house

So essentially, I was doing a house-sitting job through Rover while the owners were out of town, and everything was completely normal at first, assuming I had the place to myself for the duration of the booking. Then, out of nowhere, their grandson came home and told me he lived there??? I had no idea anyone else was supposed to be staying at the house, so it caught me really off guard.

After that, we basically just had to awkwardly coexist for the rest of the stay. He would leave for work during the day while I stayed there with the dog, and then come back later at night. I also hadn’t been given a room to stay in, so I was sleeping on the couch the entire time, which made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. As a young woman, suddenly finding out I was to share the house with a man I didn’t know was honestly really strange. Nothing necessarily “happened,” but it definitely wasn’t a situation I would’ve agreed to if I had known in advance.

Has anyone else experienced something like this???
