DIY exhaust fan for Samla with “top cover” ui control
Hello everyone! It’s nothing new, but here’s my version of diy top cover made of Samla, pc fan and biqu ams 6 pin cable. I’ve made it modular, so u can change cover. Right now I use a fan grill version, there’s also one with 120mm connector to withdraw air to outside through a pipe, and version without cutouts so it wouldn’t let air escape (for abs prints).
I started this project cause I had several severe clogs from pla. This summer is particularly hot and my balcony gets pretty warm under the sun rays. So even at 70c bed temp I get roughly 50c of chamber temp with Samla container. After I installed everything just in 5 min I get 36c of chamber temp, which I consider a success.
Most important part is that u can control and turn it of through printers ui. It works like official top cover. The only trick is to make your printer recognize it, so u have to tweak your config a bit. And as I really couldn’t find 24v 120mm fan I took 12v pc fan and a step down converter.
The credit goes to @TinkermanHK on youtube, as he figured out the wiring. I simply made it printable and easier to install.
Future upgrade is coming too: I already modeled and ordered everything for internal filtration system using 12032 fan and a carbon hepa filter. My current setup has additional “expansion” slot to connect second unit to the whole system. Hopefully it will work via ui as well. Fingers crossed
