Why does everyone take calc 3?

i hear people saying calc 3 is easier than 2, but why? I took BC in junior year and got a 4, the questions for the “are you ready for calc 3” test were familiar but I couldn't do them easily. my advisor suggested 3 saying it’s easier but I’m unsure - if I do, should I take it in the fall?

MedPrep, Chem class availability, PLTL

Hi! Incoming premed freshman here with a couple of questions.

  1. I hear mixed reviews on the med-prep class and wanted to know if it's worth it? I added it since you only meet once a week for 2 hours, and I know the second part of the class gives you shadowing opportunities - but shouldn't I be starting that earlier..? I don't know what I don't know.

  2. I really want to take Chem 1601 with Professor Luo but it looks like a 68/225 seats have already been filled - the other teacher (Professor Hamdi) doesn't have the best reviews ratemyprofessor. Would that impact my grade in a class that so many freshmen take, I feel like the tests would be equal but idk.

  3. For Professor Hamdi, I saw people saying to take the PLTL. Is that the discussion you're required to take with chem, or something else? How do I sign up?

Calc level needed for premed/MCAT

Incoming freshman here! I still have to take the calc placement exams but I wanted to know what's the highest lvl of calc needed for the MCAT? I know math isn't tested, but those taking calc-based physics score better.

Class Advice

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman on the pre-med track. I'm still needing to take the chem diagnostic placement test, but assuming I do well and have the option, should I take the 1601-1602 path, 1701-1702 path, or 1601-1702 (I heard from a current student to take this) path?

My goal is to be as MCAT-ready as possible. Also do you take the second semester (1602/1702) of these classes in your freshman or sophomore year?

Hi! I got into both - Claremont McKenna for integrated sciences (brain/learning/decision making) and into WashU college of arts and sciences (I applied public health but the letter doesn’t give a major). I attended the cmc admitted students day and had amazing convo with students and and even the head of curriculum (we chatted about the med-school readiness their curriculum provides given all the complaints I found online) and I feel really assured I’ll have everything I want for med school. my con is that they’re known for leadership and Econ primarily. Lots of research opportunities and a great alumni network but idk. WashU, on the other hand, it’s really tempting because its attached to a med school, hospital and has a really good name behind it. Everyone knows washu but few know cmc. I haven’t had the chance to speak with washu faculty or friends so I don’t have much of an opinion yet.
