Calc textbook to giveaway?

Does anyone have a copy of “Calculus: Early Transcendentals 7th Edition” that they’d be willing to sell cheap or give away?

BD Bistro Grille Grubhub order still active

It's my first time using the Grubhub system at WashU.

When you pickup your order do you just take it and go? Or is there something you need to do to make sure Grubhub knows you picked up your order. I went to go pickup my order and when I got back to my dorm the app still said my order was active.

Is this a manual thing or something staff do afterwards?

Don't remember much: 1601 Principles of General Chemistry vs 1701 General Chemistry

I really don't remember Chemistry in Sophomore year in high school. I just decided to do Pre-health. If I don't remember really anything, would taking Chem 1601 be ok? Is there much of a difference between the two Chem classes? How much easier is 1601? Is it worth the stretch for Daschbach? How's Leo or Hamdi? Thanks!

Inequality by Design (exams)

How are the exams/class in general? I have an exam in that class on the same day as my Chem midterm (💀) so I wanted to know how difficult it would be

I made a better app than WUGO/Presence

I was a summer researcher at WashU and I found it very difficult to find events across hundreds of instagram and Wugo/presence. If there was a club I liked, I couldn't view more of their events. So I made Scrafl:

  • I have an algorithm that scrapes instagram and Presence and adds the events on Scrafl.
  • You can view the events on the map or as feed.
  • You can easily rsvp to an event.
  • You can request to join a club.
  • You can follow a club to keep up with their events and announcements.
  • If you have a club, you can easily manage memberships and view insights about your club.

It has started to get some traction (200+ users) but I don't have any way to get feedback from users. I would love for you guys to try it out and give me any feedback!

Concert Choir Placement Audition Question

Wondering if anyone who has taken or is taking concert choir can tell me about the audition process? I’m specifically interested in knowing if I need to prepare something. I’m 99% sure I have to but do I need to bring a copy of the accompaniment? Thanks!

How likely do you think I’d get off the permit waitlist?

I live in south city and the shuttle doesn’t go anywhere near my house 😩 and parking in forest park is a hit or miss (and I saw that the golf course is even trying to get rid of washu ppl parking anywhere around it) so idk where to park really especially for my 8:30 am classes without paying 15 dollars a day

Summer opportunities (Summer 2027)

Hi all!

I'm an incoming sophomore majoring in math. I worked a dead end fast food job this summer and I really don't want to go back. I don't care about the money, I don't care about the location, I just really want to do something next summer that's more professional/academic and less soul-sucking. Does anyone know of any good internship or volunteer opportunities over the summer? If I stayed in the St. Louis area I could definitely find room and board off campus, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Time Management Concerns

I just got a lab position! Yay!!! However, I am a bit worried about my schedule, given that I am a first semester pre-med. This will likely be my only commitment for the entire first semester. I am worried about my grades and time management, however. This lab is dry lab and they are open to me doing some remote work. But, have people done this before? Any tips for managing my time?

Is the GrubHub app usually like this?

I can't seem to view or purchase anything from the BD even though it has clearly been open. Is this just a first week thing or something is wrong with GH?

Also the menu on the official site for BD (https://washudining.sodexomyway.com/en-us/locations/bears-den) is blank. I have special dietary needs so seeing a menu in advance and preordering food is really beneficial. Thanks in advance.

Turf war over parking is brewing in Forest Park: The city is eyeing a three-hour limit on the western edge of the park—which would give WashU employees the boot.

A WashU staffer tells SLM that recently, a campus police officer told a staffer parking in Forest Park along Lagoon Drive near Skinker that before too long the park was going to install signs limiting parking on Lagoon to three hours. Anyone parked there longer would be subject to a ticket.

St. Louis Astronomical Society August 2026 Meeting. Friday, August 21, 2026, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. WashU McDonnell Hall 162 and Zoom

Michael Nowak, Research Professor of Physics and Associate Director of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences, will be presenting the St. Louis Astronomical Society's August meeting

Observational astronomy is mostly a story about measuring photons with precision — how many are there, what direction are they coming from, when do they arrive, and what are their energies? The better we can make those measurements the better our understanding of the astrophysical systems that send those photons across the Cosmos to our sky. A key tool in astrophysical studies is spectroscopy — deciphering photon energies by exploring the rainbow of colors in the light that we detect. Most of us are familiar with rainbows created either naturally in a misty sky or intentionally with prisms and diffraction gratings. But how do we do this when we are talking about X-rays? It turns out, this is much more difficult, but extremely important for our understanding of the most exotic phenomena in our Universe, such as black holes and neutron stars! In this talk I will discuss our currently most precise instruments for measuring “X-ray Rainbows”: the Chandra-High Energy Transmission Gratings and the XRISM satellite, which uses “quantum detectors” to open up a new frontier in X-ray spectroscopy. I will also discuss possible future instruments that could be used to make precise measurements of "X-ray rainbows" from distant, supermassive black holes to reveal the “missing matter” in the Universe (that you probably didn’t even realize was missing!)

The St. Louis Astronomical Society is an organization for individuals interested in astronomy and telescopes. The public is invited to attend its meetings, telescope observing sessions, and special events. For more information about Astronomical Society events, please visit www.slasonline.org.

Free parking will be available. Request Zoom link: https://www.slasonline.org/?Itemid=333

Must we strictly adhere to the side of room assignments?

Hey all. My roommate and I decided on who would sleep on which side of the room in advance, but that appears to be the opposite of what the school assigned us. Is that alright?

Too Much?

So I’m taking 8 classes my first semester and want to know if it’s too much based on other’s experiences. I know that sounds crazy but here’s the list:

Psychology 101

Chem 1701 with lecture

Chem Lab 1751 with Lecture

Contemporary issues in psychology

Med Prep 1

College Writing

Concert Choir

Fundamentals of Acting

Now this adds up to 16 credits which is high but not the max I could take. I would like to give you all a background as it may change your perspective. I have already taken AP Psychology and got a 4 so i just missed the cutoff which makes me think I’ll have an easier time in that class. I also got a 5 on AP Chemistry so I have a strong background in chemistry. I love performing arts and really want to minor in something related to that.

I’m hoping with this schedule I can really narrow down what I want to major in as I’m going between Biology (Neuroscience speciality) and Chemistry as a major. However, I do not want to fall behind with a big schedule like this.

So with my background and plans outlined, can any of you all share some insight and let me know if I’m going in the right direction? Thanks!
