Incoming premed freshman looking for course advice

I’m an incoming freshman at washu. Im looking to be a biochem major on premed track. Im making my schedule right now but im not sure what to put. I plan to take chem 1701+lab calc 3 intro to psych and a first year oppurtunity: introduction to cutting edge research in biology and medprep 1. Thats 13 credits. What other class should I take? Im thinking anthro introduction to human evolution or a first year seminar introduction to problem based learning in biology. Is there other easy courses I should consider and also are the selected courses I have ok? Any suggestions are welcome!!!!

I'm trying to figure out what my last class should be and I am so freaking lost.

So I'm a first-year student wanting to do premed and I've got most of my schedule figured out, except for my last course (I plan on taking four + an ampersand). I want to do Bio major in the future.

I asked a prehealth advisor and she said that I really only need to take College Writing and Chem + Chem Lab in the fall. I don't need to take any math classes because I took the math placement test and my score was high enough to place me in Calc III. I've also taken the AP Calc BC test and got a 5 on it. And I can't take Bio fall semester for some reason. So basically I can take whatever I want for my last class and I picked Physics 1040 cause like why tf not?

But then I met with my four-year advisor and she recommended I don't take Physics because I'd have to take Bio, Chem, and Physics in my spring semester and she's worried the workload might too much for me (completely fair). She then told me I should either do Calc III fall semester and then Stats spring semester, or just take a social science. So I replaced physics 1040 with Intro to Psych.

And THEN I asked a couple of researchers I interned under in high school and they told me I should still take a year of math in college. So now I don't know what tf I should do and I'm looking on reddit for answers.

washu readmission pathway?

hi! i just wanted to ask a question about if there was a readmission pathaway. i just finished my freshman year here, and i applied transfer and committed to another school to support family for extentuating circumstances, but genuinely loved my time at washu (like REALLY, REALLY loved it and it was super good for my mental health) and everything about it. i was wondering if anyone knew if washu had a readmissions processes on like workday or something or if i would have to apply back again for standard transfer admissions if circumstances clear up. and would anyone know how being a visiting student would work if i didn’t transfer back? thank you!

Lee Hall Traditional Double

How bad is Lee Hall in a traditional double really? Honest opinions. There are no study rooms like all other dorms, so where do you study with the communal noise? How safe is it to walk back from the libraries at 11 pm? Positives and negatives, please.

Dauten Hall

I was just assigned a traditional double suite at Dauten Hall and I am wondering about people’s opinions regarding Dauten or JKL. I’ve seen mixed reviews already, so I would appreciate knowing some pros and cons. How are the amenities and how is the location in respect to popular places on campus? Thank you!!

Lien House

I was just assigned a modern double in Lien House as my freshman dorm! Excited about the modern double but haven’t really heard anything about Lien.

Can anyone who’s lived there or knows anything about it tell me what it’s like / what your experience was?

Weird corner wall in Lien hall?

first of all, i know people are probably tired of answering all of the questions about housing, so please lmk if i would be better off just emailing the residential community director to ask my question.

my roommate and i have been trying to plan out the layout for our dorm in lien hall, and ive noticed that theres a little square part of the wall that sticks out (maybe for a vent) in all of the pictures. however, when i look at the floor plans the only rooms that should have those are on the corners. we want to both put our beds against the wall (something about sleeping not against a wall lowk scares me 💀), but if that extra thing is there then we won’t be able to.

does anyone know if every room has this, or is it just the corner rooms? i saw the picture on this link: https://reslife.washu.edu/living-at-washu/residential-life-facilities/virtual-tour/

Incoming BME freshman worried about first-semester courseload. Should I try to move BME 1400?

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming first-year planning to major in BME, and I’m worried about my fall schedule. Right now I’m registered for:

  • BME 1400 Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
  • CHEM 1601 Principles of General Chemistry I
  • CHEM 1751 General Chemistry Lab I
  • MATH 1520 Calculus II
  • PHYSICS 1740 Physics I
  • PHYSICS 1741 Physics I Lab

I know some of the extra section listings are just discussion/lab/recitation components, but as a first-semester schedule this still feels like a lot with chemistry + chem lab + Calc II + physics + physics lab + BME 1400.

I’m also hoping to minor in writing, potentially take some business classes later on, and work in a lab as a volunteer this year as I've secured a position, so I’m trying to think about my schedule long-term rather than just surviving the first semester. I don’t want to overload myself so much right away that I have no room to explore anything outside of technical requirements.

For students who have taken these classes, especially BME majors: is this a normal/manageable first-semester schedule, or is it a bad idea? Would it make sense to ask my advisor about delaying BME 1400, or would that mess up the BME sequence? Are there other parts of this schedule that people would recommend moving instead?

Any honest advice would be appreciated.

Freshman course selection advice

Hi everyone! I'm a premed freshman at washu this fall and was wondering if this course load is too much?

I'm hoping to do calc 2, gen chem 1701 with lab, college writing, and a first year program that is pass fail, as well as medprep I

I wanted to ask the washu community whether I should add intro to psych or sociology alongside with the aforementioned classes I'm doing, and was hoping to ask for as much advice as possible on whether or not thats a good idea!

Course Selection Advice

Hi! Im an incoming freshman who is currently undecided about my major. I know I’m interested in STEM as I really enjoyed my AP Bio class last year, but I’m not sure which field yet. I know I don’t want to do Premed and Im trying to take broad range of STEM courses during my first year to help me decide.

My current schedule is:
BIOL 1171 – First Year Opportunity: Neuroscience Futures I: How Do We Learn About the Brain?
MATH 2130
BME 1400
PSYCH 1000
College Writing

I’ve read that Calc III is generally easier in the spring (especially with Professor Schaefer), and I’m concerned my fall course load may be a bit heavy while adjusting to college. Would you recommend waiting until spring to take Calc III or is it better to take it this fall? Also does my current schedule fit well with my context or are there other classes that you would recommend. Thanks!

Coronado place and Towers Apartments

Hello! I am an upcoming grad student attending WashU Medical Campus for the fall. I will be relocating to Missouri and have been looking for apartments.

I came across Coronado Place and Towers Apartments, and while the Google Reviews rating is low, I'm reaching out to see if any WashU students can share information or insights about it. I am considering it, of course, mainly because of the price + proximity to campus (I plan to walk/public transportation) to reach campus.

classes

I am creating a saved schedule, and so far I have Calc 2, Chem 1700 + Chem Lab, College Writing (Dreams and Nightmares), and then I am trying to figure out what my final class should be. I want something that requires lower effort and is low stress and less writing assignments, where I can also guarantee an A, preferably classes in the environmental/natural sciences field.

Why does everyone take calc 3?

i hear people saying calc 3 is easier than 2, but why? I took BC in junior year and got a 4, the questions for the “are you ready for calc 3” test were familiar but I couldn't do them easily. my advisor suggested 3 saying it’s easier but I’m unsure - if I do, should I take it in the fall?

Feeling lost regarding transferring

I’m an incoming freshman to WashU art-sci. I was mainly undecided so I applied to art-sci but recently I have gotten a huge interest in consulting and Olin. I decided I’d like to transfer in my sophomore year. I met with my advisor and she mainly discouraged me and said she didn’t know much about transferring to Olin and due to the lack of guarantee I should focus on art-sci until my sophomore year as i’m not eligible yet. What’s confusing me is the fact I thought I should be completing the transfer requirements in ORDER to transfer in sophomore year. I’m super lost and this is the schedule I’ve built so far for the Fall semester (i’m a spring writing placement)but it just seems to sort of be a mess.

Calc II

All the worlds stage Ampersand program

DAT 1200-1 Managerial Stats (Idk if i’ll get this as it’s pretty full)

Bear prints for Success

ECON 1501

Would anyone be willing to tell me if this helps knock out the requirements and what you would recommend. Is Econ is a wise choice in my case?
