I’m going to attempt to start a series where I select different regions of countries/continents and fill up the map using cityquiz.io. The first region will be the southeastern United States. The cities eligible are within these states: Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia.

Me and my friend (both 19M) are planning a 2 week trip to Peru in early January 2027. I want to secure plane tickets, which from what I’ve researched will become cheapest typically 1-3 months before departure date (not a guarantee).
My question:
We’re flying out of Cincinnati (CVG) Jan 2 and returning Jan 16. LATAM and Capital One Shopping have a deal where if you spend $350 you get $150 back in redeemable C1 rewards for gift cards. So essentially, the flight I’m looking at which is $1,502 round trip (2 stops) for two people would be $677. But, that’s if I can convert the rewards into cash. Hypothetically, selling lets say a Walmart gift card for 85-95% would yield a $685-690 RT ticket each. We aren’t too worried about budget but of course we want a good deal.
Another option would be using the $150 in gift cards (to whatever retailer/airline/etc available) to fund other travel expenses/gear/etc.
Do I buy now, prioritizing peace of mind, but risking flights dropping from 680-700 to 600-650?

I wasn’t sure if Chase was still offering the 1st year 5% cb groceries/gas for the CFU but they are, at least locally. I went into my local branch and it was an easy process. For reference, my income is around 10k (college student) and my FICO credit score is 755 with a year of credit history. Was approved with a 2.5k line and bonus of $200 after $500 spent in 3 months and elevated cb for groceries/gas. Makes the CFU a much better card so highly recommend checking your local branch
Edit: Specific credit score (FICO)
I’m an incoming freshman at WashU looking to work on campus to make some extra money. Was just wondering how many hours is recommended to balance work and study? I’m thinking around 10. I’ll have 15-16 credit hours first semester on the pre-med track. Just wanna hear other’s experiences working. Thanks!
I am copying/pasting the body of another post I made on r/CreditCards. I am just trying to reach a larger amount of people to get the most feedback possible rather than relying on Google. I am only looking for financial advice pertaining to the title. Thanks!
For some context: I am (19M, USA) entering my first year of college this fall. I have zero debt (no student loans) and a good amount of cash saved up. Financially I feel very confident. I technically have 6 years of credit history due to being an authorized user, but I am omitting that info to stay consistent for my own personal record. I am planning on going on a 6 week road trip summer 2027 with 3-4 friends and want to travel internationally for a week. I plan on doing this through work, CC points if possible, very frugal living and travel, and bank bonus churning. This is all just context for my credit card decision. Not looking for any other specific advice from this sub :)
Looking forward to hearing advice. Thank you all!
