I hate the whole idea of "Address me" subreddits
(English is not my first language. Please excuse me for the bad English.)
The humor of the "address me" jokes comes from how it is unexpected. You look at a meme and go "Huh, how is this funny" and then you suddenly notice an unexpected hidden joke(sometimes unintended) in it and burst into laughter, that is what makes it hilarious.
However, now that there are subreddits like r/adressme or r/addressme, when you see a post is from those subreddits you immediately know there is some kind of hidden element in it and that's the fun of it. So naturally your first instinct becomes searching for that hidden joke, not trying to understand the post as itself.
That alone beats the whole point of the joke. And even worse, due to the existence of these subreddits, now if you post those kinds of joke in other subreddits, top comments will always link to the address me subreddits. This means that we are going to see significantly less "naturally occuring" elephants from other subreddits from now. This is so sad.
Writing this, I started asking myself why am I giving shit to any of these. But anyway those were my opinions. Thanks
