Which shogi explanation is easier to understand?

I am currently revising an introductory shogi book, including adding color to the diagrams and improving the text. I'll show you an image of a page from the published edition alongside an image of the corresponding page from the revised edition that I'm currently working on.

I am also reconsidering my use of bold and underlining, as I would like to avoid overusing them. Do you think the text is easier to understand with this kind of emphasis, or is it better without it?

Any ideas on how we can grow the global shogi population?

I’m currently working on a remake of my beginner shogi guide originally published in 2021.

Back then, I wrote, "There are about 6.2 million Shogi players in the world (according to the 2020 Leisure White Paper)". However, while updating the data for the new edition, the latest 2025 statistics show that the number has unfortunately dropped to 4.3 million.

I really want to help change this trend and turn things around. I would love to hear your thoughts, what kind of ideas or approaches do you think could help spark more interest in shogi among people all over the world?

How do you rank the value of shogi pieces?

While reading various shogi books for beginners, I've noticed that explanations of piece values tend to vary depending on the author.

Personally, I think of it simply as shown in this image, but I'd like to hear other opinions and perspectives! What do you think?

Upcoming Shogi Tsume book in June! Full-color remake with significantly expanded explanations.

I will publish a Tsume Shogi book this June!

This is a complete, full-color remake of one of my previously published books, and I have significantly expanded and rewritten the explanations to make the concepts even clearer. After this release, I also plan to give my beginner Shogi guide the same full-color remake treatment!

While my English Shogi books have been exclusive to Amazon KDP, I want to make them accessible to even more players around the world. Moving forward, I will also be selling my e-books on Google Play Books and Patreon!

I’m currently developing a browser-based Shogi application called "Shogi Steps" to help people all over the world enjoy the game.

The app is designed to guide players from learning the basic rules to playing against an AI. I’ve just uploaded a short video to showcase some of its features, including the lesson and AI battle functions!

I’m currently conducting tests on the server, and everything is on track for a release within this May. I hope this becomes a great gateway for new players!
