Is John Lewis quietly abandoning "never knowingly undersold"?

I'm getting the impression that more often John Lewis is both not doing price matching anymore and undoing price matching they have previously done.

For example, up until yesterday price matches were on som JL products I was looking at, e.g. this Tan-Luxe was £28.80 and BabyBjorn was £184.90 on JL, both marked as "Price matched", but since early this morning many JL prices have reverted, JL have (presumably knowingly) removed these price matches, while both have maintained stock availability and sale price on Boots and Mamas&Papas.

Another quirk... I called JL and the poor gentleman struggled to disagree with me that it's odd the JL website says this:

"Alternatively, if you are buying online then the quickest way to have your request processed is by completing your purchase and then filling in the online claim form with evidence that we can verify."

When in fact, since it is the only way to do price matching when buying online, it also satisfies the criterion of being the slowest way.

You'd think after they only just reintroduced the policy a couple of years ago, JL wouldn't be actively avoiding price match?
