Is Waitrose running a scam?

Just bought these Brita water filters from Waitrose while doing grocery shopping. I don’t remember how much they normally cost. This box of 6 showed up as 42 quid when I checked out, which I found to be expensive. But I was in a hurry and thought to myself Waitrose probably charged a few quid extra compared to Amazon or that I was probably buying some premium version of the filters.

Went home and checked online. Amazon sells this exact box of 6 for £22 and Brita sells it for £25. This is not just a few quid difference. Is Waitrose mad??

Curry's UK - Tumble Dryer Broken, how to contact outside of the UK

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping you could help me.

I bought a tumble dryer from Currys in June 2023, In 2025, I moved abroad with work and now rent my property out, with the tumble dryer for use by the tenants. The Tumble dryer has now stopped working, so I got a technician to take a look and they have stated that the PCB is broken and obselete and therefore the dryer is Beyond Economical Repair.
The dryer is no longer within warranty, but my understanding is that i could have some potential recourse due to the 2015 Consumer rights act that states that goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and sufficiently durable. Obviously a dryer is expected to last over 3 years.

I spoke to Curry's online chat and they said that as the purchase was in store, i would have to visit the store or write them a letter to discuss this. I'm currently residing in the Middle East so this isn't really viable, and having to discuss this via letters seems crazy in this day and age.

I did find a customer services email online, but received an automated reply, saying the inbox is no longer monitored.

My question is, does anyone know of any customer service emails for Currys you have used in the past, and also experience with white goods breaking outside of the warranty, but within what should be expected of it's 'durableness'?

Thank you.

Currys is beating the retail slowdown — are gadgets now more “essential” than clothes?

Reuters says Currys expects an 18% rise in annual profit after UK & Ireland like-for-like sales rose 3%, helped by iD Mobile, services and business sales. Feels like a BuyersUK debate: are people cutting fashion and homeware but still paying for phones, laptops and appliances because they’re no longer optional?

foodservice wholesalers / distributors

Like many people I am looking to save money on my monthly shop (family of 4 including 2 teens).
Does anyone have views or experience in using a service such as JJ Foodservice or another wholesaler to bulk buy for their family ?
I'm mostly thinking meats and veg but interested in any views.

£17m in Tesco Clubcard vouchers expire this month — how much is sitting unused in your account?

MoneySavingExpert says £17m worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers are due to expire at 11.59pm on Sunday 31 May. With weekly shops still painful, it feels mad that so much “earned” money could quietly vanish. Worth checking the app now — are loyalty schemes genuinely saving people money, or making rewards too easy to forget?

Are online “was £199, now £10” deals becoming impossible to trust?

Which? says shoppers risk being misled by discount claims on eBay, Temu and Wayfair after checking 80 products across major marketplaces. It found many RRPs looked much higher than prices found elsewhere online, raising a simple BuyersUK question: when everything is “on sale”, how do you know whether it’s a real deal or just fake urgency?

What products do you buy which are definitely duped across supermarkets?

e.g. a supermarket own-brand jam which is definitely made in the same factory as the same equivalent in another supermarket.

Is John Lewis quietly abandoning "never knowingly undersold"?

I'm getting the impression that more often John Lewis is both not doing price matching anymore and undoing price matching they have previously done.

For example, up until yesterday price matches were on som JL products I was looking at, e.g. this Tan-Luxe was £28.80 and BabyBjorn was £184.90 on JL, both marked as "Price matched", but since early this morning many JL prices have reverted, JL have (presumably knowingly) removed these price matches, while both have maintained stock availability and sale price on Boots and Mamas&Papas.

Another quirk... I called JL and the poor gentleman struggled to disagree with me that it's odd the JL website says this:

"Alternatively, if you are buying online then the quickest way to have your request processed is by completing your purchase and then filling in the online claim form with evidence that we can verify."

When in fact, since it is the only way to do price matching when buying online, it also satisfies the criterion of being the slowest way.

You'd think after they only just reintroduced the policy a couple of years ago, JL wouldn't be actively avoiding price match?

Argos Catalogue

Does anyone else miss the Argos Catalogue? As a kid, I use to love circling all the things I wanted from it and seeing them appear under the tree on Christmas Day. As a Parent myself now, I am devastated that my kids will never experience it. So let's help it be bought back.

Does anyone recognise this bedding? Trying to figure out where we bought this bedding from but have next to nothing to go on.

Might be too vague but I really want to figure out where this bedding came from, it’s so soft. I know it says microfiber but this particular bedding it the best microfiber one I’ve ever tried.

It would’ve been bought at a typical UK shop, either one like Asda/Sainsburys or a homeware shop like Dunelm or The Range but very unlikely to be a high end shop.

I added a couple other photos to show the other possibly identifiable features like the tie hoops and snap buttons!

If you don’t recognise where it’s from, just ruling out certain shops would be a huge help 🙏🏻

Thank you xx

Joybuy is taking on Amazon in the UK — would you trust another mega-shopping app?

The Guardian reports Joybuy, owned by China’s JD.com, is pushing into the UK with 50,000+ product lines, same/next-day delivery promises and a £3.99 monthly delivery membership. For UK buyers, this could mean cheaper competition — or another platform pulling spending away from local shops. Would you try it over Amazon?

Are small treats surviving while bigger buys get cut?

BRC-KPMG says UK retail sales fell 3% year on year in April, with food, non-food, in-store and online sales all down. But KPMG noted slight growth in beauty, health and jewellery while most other categories dropped. Feels like a BuyersUK question: are people skipping bigger purchases but still keeping small “feel-good” buys?

FlyingTiger is serious addictive, mostly tat, but a few decent finds, mostly for art supplies, kitchen bits and gifts
