My doctor wrote me a 42-day Xifaxan prescription (?!)

Is this normal? I've never taken Xifaxan before because my insurance wouldn't pay for it, so I had to take Bactrim instead (4 times in 4 years). My SIBO eventually came back each time, albeit I did get a little better each time.

I started having a bad flare back in June that has just never gone away. Fortunately, this year I got new insurance and a new doctor who after hearing my history gave me an IBS diagnosis and a 42-day prescription for Xifaxan (550mg per day). It seems like a long time! My Bactrim scripts were all for 10-14 days only. Also, the Xifaxan cost me $550. Without insurance it would have been $3300, according to the pharmacist. I swallowed hard and paid for it because somehow I still have hope.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well this works, but has anyone else taken Xifaxan for that long? Farewell to my microbiome, such as it was, I guess.

Edit: The label says 550 mg three times per day, not once per day. Also, isn't there a risk of getting c.diff from taking an antibiotic that long?

Update on 12v draw: Subaru tech can see it happening

Just wanted to update folks on the situation described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/trailseeker/s/jXUnehjvDo

Out TS has been in the shop for the second time. We had to have it towed out of our garage because the battery was too dead to jump start it. (The tow truck had to drag it, leaving some rubber on the driveway.) It's been in the shop for five days. They had to order a new (same kind) battery and install it, then they started testing it.

We had already eliminated all apps, including Subaru Connect, from our phones after the first incident. The tech took our phones both times and looked carefully at them so he could certify to Subaru we had done that. We did not cut off the DCM but we told the tech that was our next plan of action. He agreed it would be a good idea, but wanted to go through the specific steps from Subaru, in order, to better determine exactly what was causing the issue.

We were surprised to get a call today saying they can actually see the parasitic drain occurring. They have a call in to Subaru HQ for guidance on what to do.

I guess we'll see what happens next.

Hit by the 12v battery issue

We picked up our TS at the end of June. It was manufactured in May. We've driven it every day since then, until yesterday when we left it in the garage all day. This morning it was dead. Luckily we'd been reading this subreddit and had a 12v jump starter on hand. Started it up and drove it straight to the Subaru dealer.

They're going to keep it overnight and run "diagnostics." We all know they won't find anything or do anything, but it's good to establish a paper trail. I saved all your threads on bigger batteries and nighttime scheduling, so that will probably be our next strategy.

Has anyone bought the Battery Charger and Maintainer accessory for their Trailseeker?

We are getting our new Trailseeker tomorrow and we purchased the Battery Charger and Maintainer accessory with it. It will be our first EV so we assume the learning curve will be steep. However, we added this specific accessory to the package because we've been reading all the posts here about the 12v battery drainage issue.

I haven't seen anyone mention this accessory as a solution to that problem in any of those posts, but Google says the Battery Maintainer is specifically intended to solve the problem of parking your car for extended periods of time. You attach the charger when plugged in, and it is supposed to trickle-charge the 12v while the car is not in use, preventing the parasitic power drain.

I know very little about vehicles. Am I wrong to think that Subaru was aware of potential issues and created an accessory specific for this problem?

I very much appreciate all the discussion here about the Trailseeker, especially for giving us a heads-up on the 12v battery drainage. We are pretty apprehensive about this purchase, but have been waiting 15 years for an electric version of the Outback to finally arrive. Our 2011 ICE Outback literally bit the dust four weeks ago with 250,000 miles. Didn't want to be the Beta testers for the EV Outback, but here we are!

We are newly retired and this will be our only vehicle. I'm thinking back to the mid-1980s when we were the first people we knew to buy the components and build a personal computer for ourselves. (RAM was so expensive in those days that we could only afford 64KB.) That worked out pretty well, though. Hoping we will once again be able to meet a tech challenge at this stage in our lives lol. If nothing else, it should keep our brains active for a bit, right?

Edited for ridiculous paragraph spacing.
