It goes in waves

Hi you might’ve seen me a lot on this sub, here I am again 🫣🤗
I wanted to tell everyone that the recovery is not a constant pain, but rather just waves of pain and then a little bit of ease and calmness (for me atleast).

5 hours ago I made a post about “I am going crazy” and now I feel surprisingly fine.

On day 4 rn, my throat looks like a horror winter wonderland so it’s luckily healing well

My biggest advice is:
• Drink ice water (2/2.5L) —> most important!
• Swallow
• Ice & ice cream
• Eat soft foods, just try even if it hurts
• humidifier 24/7
• ice packs
• time your meds
• Sleep! I finally got to sleep for an hour and it feels like the world is a breeze again

And for the mental part, just vent, release your emotions, chat with someone. This can be very challenging mentally and isn’t talked about enough

I’m probably up for a rollercoaster ride like everyone else who is experiencing this right now, just wanted to let you all know that there will be some moments of relief which gave me hope again 💕🙏 it’ll be worth it! I wish you all a healthy and speedy recovery!

Thanks to everyone for the great advice and stories, you don’t know how much it means to me :)

I’m going crazy

Hi I (18F) am on day 4 rn, the ear and swallowing pain is barbaric. To make it worse, I got my period, which makes me 10x more sensitive to the pain

I feel like I’m going crazy I haven’t slept for two days. What is something I can do right now to relieve even just a little bit of pain 😭

thank you so much in advance

I was so wrong

Lol my previous post was about how much of a breeze day 2 was, thinking that this would be easy. I was so wrong about that. On day 3 rn and it honestly sucks, haven’t slept all night

Anyone else with the rotten flesh smell? And a horrible lack of sleep?

I’m so grossed out by my own breath and nothing seems to help, just thug it out? When does this nightmare stop 😭

Tell me what’s about to happen

Hi I’m on day 2 (my surgery day being day 1) and I honestly feel really fine even though I woke up a few times in the night! I was able to eat soft pasta, 8 scrambled eggs, pumpkin soup, soft bread and cucumber. Obviously swallowing is painful and I have a swollen tongue but it’s pretty manageable.

Is this the point where it all starts going downhill?

Am I delusional about this being so manageable or do I just have to wait a few days before it’s getting very miserable?

I’d love to hear some stories from people who are a little further in their tonsillectomy recovery.

Thank you!

My tonsillectomy surgery (day 1)

Hi I (18F) just got my tonsillectomy today (18 may). Here’s my story.

I really want to thank you all for the great advice, this made me prepare physically and mentally. I felt really calm and relaxed before going into surgery. However, when I was in the operation room I started bawling my eyes out due to sudden nervousness lol. The nurses were so kind

Woke up crying again, first thing I told the nurse was: “is this real?” 😭 it really felt like I was awake in a nostalgic dream after the anaesthesia. Such a strange experience

Ate a lot of ice cream and started crying from the pain after drinking water, felt like sharp knives. It’s all a mental game, just keep drinking. I only feel pain in my right tonsil side, I genuinely don’t feel anything on the left. Anyone else who had this too?

I had been laying in bed for 5 months, with no breaks. I was very sick and in pain from small but chronic infected tonsils. I really feel an energetic shift since getting my tonsils out, feeling really happy about this :)

I know the next few days will be miserable but to anyone thinking about this surgery: DO IT 🙌 no matter how painful it is, the long-term effects will be so worth it! I’m so glad to finally get my life back. Wishing everyone a safe recovery!

The long nights

Hi I really need some advice! I’ve seen lots of people talking about setting a timer during the night to take their water and medication. However, everyone has a different timer.

What works best? Every 1,2 or 3 hours?
How did you heal the fastest?

Thank you so much in advance!

Been in bed for 5 months!

I have chronically ill tonsils and it’s gotten so bad to the point that I’ve been laying in my bed for 5 months!

My energy is low, I have trouble sleeping and my throat is extremely red. My tonsils can’t heal anymore. I really need a surgery but the waiting list is sooo long!

Anyone else who has experienced this? I feel so lonely and haven’t heard this experience before

Help me I need advice

Please help! My tonsils have been chronically sick for a long time, everyone who gets a tonsillectomy talks about “large tonsils” before the surgery. However, mine are extremely small, you can barely see them when you look into my throat.

I still have huge problems with my tonsils, is this normal? Anyone else who had this too?

If yes, did you get a tonsillectomy and what was your experience?

Experience tonsillectomy

Tell me your full experience from surgery to full recovery. Did everything stay the same after healing?

I heard that some people have a different voice / taste after this surgery.

Do you have any tips?
