MentraOS SDK — data-flow + retention questions before ordering

Hey everyone,

I’m considering Mentra Live for a private accessibility-related prototype and wanted to ask about the current developer experience before ordering.

Main questions:

  1. Can third-party MentraOS apps request camera photos on demand?

  2. Can apps access microphone input or speech-to-text results?

  3. Can apps play audio or TTS through the glasses speakers?

  4. Can apps send captured data to their own backend APIs?

  5. Does image/audio data pass through Mentra servers, or can it stay between the glasses/phone and the developer’s backend?

  6. Can apps be tested privately without publishing to the store?

  7. Is repeated capture practical, or is the current SDK better for occasional single-shot interactions?

  8. Any battery, latency, thermal, or rate-limit limitations developers should know about?

I’m also curious about privacy/data flow for third-party apps, especially around camera/audio/location permissions.

Has anyone built with the camera + mic/STT + speaker/TTS stack yet? Is Mentra Live ready enough for serious prototyping?

Here's the cleaned-up version:

Spent the last few months on this. Posted here because r/SideProject is where I get the most useful "is this actually solving a problem" feedback.

The thing:

Every trading signal service I tried did one of two things: posted a chart with "long here" and no math, or sent 40 alerts a day where the 6 winners felt like luck.

EdgeNiq scores each setup with a multi-factor model and shows you which components contributed. Composite score 0–100, letter grade A+ through F. You see why a setup graded A (trend strong, volume confirming, regime healthy) instead of taking it on faith.

Stack: Python, Postgres, Alpaca, Next.js

What I'd love feedback on:

Anyone here built signal services before? What pitfalls did you hit?

The pricing structure (founder cohort + free trial after) feels right for me but happy to hear "you're under-pricing" arguments.

The dashboard UX - does the "score breakdown" view actually help, or is it info overload?

Public beta opens this week. First 50 users get Elite tier free for 30 days.
