Help a rising junior out

Is it possible for rising junior to take AMC 12 and qual AIME? How much time per day/week would I need to commit to this? Assuming first math comp ever, never done any competitive math before? Also never any calculus either (highest is pre-calc). Obv I know I’m very behind but is it feasible?

Studying for retakes

Those who took June sat and want to retake: how are you changing your study? I’ve already exhausted the hard banks for both math and EBRW and want to know if anyone had any recommendations to proceed?

FYI: I felt like I knew how to do the entire test (except 2 questions) but ran out of time and got pressured to answer every question thinly

Open to anyone’s tips too! If you retook a bunch I’d be happy to hear how you changed between tests.

Rejected—need words of advice

Hi everyone! I’m a high schooler who just received my first desk-rejection from a journal, and I’m feeling a bit lost on next steps.

For context: I combined my interests in diabetes research and machine learning to build a project, and a friend suggested writing it up as a paper. I spent a significant amount of time on it and I’m proud of the work, but I just got a desk-reject from my first-choice journal.

I don’t have a faculty mentor to guide me through this process, so I’m navigating it mostly on my own. From reading this subreddit (and r/PhD, but that’s a different topic), it sounds like resubmitting elsewhere is the right move, but I’m hesitant because I can’t tell whether I was rejected due to a scope mismatch or a quality issue.

Would anyone be willing to share how they distinguish between those two scenarios after a desk reject? And if any experienced researchers are open to a brief look at the paper, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Also if this isn’t the right subreddit, I apologize 😅! Please guide me to the right one if so.

Thank you so much!!
