Crunch Fitness glitched and double-billed me $132 in two weeks. Front desk refuses to help. Need advice.
Hey everyone, looking for some advice on how to handle a blatant double-charging issue with Crunch Fitness (Millcreek location in Ontario).
My regular monthly base membership is roughly $12/month. This month, I had a payment decline, so I expected a standard $15 late fee alongside my standard dues and my $40 annual club fee.
The problem is that Crunch’s automated system aggressively ran my card twice in two weeks for the exact same package of fees, and both transactions successfully processed and cleared my bank account:
June 15: -$65.07 (Successfully Cleared)
June 29: -$67.79 (Successfully Cleared)
In total, Crunch has taken $132.86 out of my bank account in a single 14-day window.
I went into the club to get it sorted, but the entry-level front desk staff were completely useless. They barely looked at my bank statements, looked at their own screen, and tried to claim that the second charge was just a "manual processing fee" added on top.
Crunch Canada's official policy caps late fees at $15–$25. There is absolutely no policy or world where a standard $12/month membership legitimately accumulates $132.86 in fees over two weeks. Their billing software clearly glitched, failed to recognize the June 15th payment cleared, and forced the entire annual fee + dues package out of my account a second time on the 29th.
The front desk staff claim they can't do anything because their computer shows the fees are "valid line items."
Has anyone dealt with Crunch corporate or an aggressive gym billing glitch like this before? Should I bypass the club entirely and go straight to my bank to file a Visa Debit chargeback for the duplicate June 29th transaction?
