I love my Legion Go 2

Ok so I posted a while back on transitioning from a Legion Go 1 Z1E to a Legion Go 2 Z2… I’ve got a month or two under my belt with the Go 2 and all I can say is it’s absolutely perfect.

The form and shape is sublime. The battery is brilliant, seems to last a really good length of time. The Go 2 feels so perfect and refined. The OLED screen is sublime.

My use case is mainly emulators and relatively easy Steam titles, nothing overly taxing in terms of AAA titles. Hence the Z2, not Z2E. I run Bazzite OS and it’s so easy and intuitive. Perfect for my use case of the machine being dedicated to gaming. For me trying to run a handheld also as a ‘proper’ pc system makes no sense. Too fiddly and annoying.

I don’t have any issues with the size and weight. I also run a Retroid pocket 5 and the Legion is like the big brother to it, I like the fact there is an overlap in terms of some systems I love to run on both, some I now prefer on the smaller machine (GBA/GBC for example) and some are great on either. Anything MAME / FBNEO I love on the Go 2 due to screen size. Anything 8 bit / 16 bit I actually also prefer on Go 2 for the screen size.

It feels like the perfect machine. I love it.

Gaming bliss….

Legion Go 2 and some old school video games; that quiet time on holiday, as the sun rises in the stillness of the mountains, somewhere on a Greek island…. Let the nostalgia flow

Retroarch location folder / ES-DE

Hi, I want to rename the folder location that retroarch is installed to. Where can I edit the path for this?

Reason being, I thought I'd installed retroarch to a folder on my Win 11 PC called 'Emulators/retroarch', when in fact, it just installed all the retroarch folders into 'Emulators' directly.

If I put those retroarch folders to a new "retroarch" folder, but the problem is ES-DE can't run any emulator that is dependent on retroarch, as it can'st see the retroarch original folder any longer.

How can I get ES-DE to see the new location? I presume there is a path in a settings or config file somewhere, but I haven’t found it.

Thanks!

Legion Go 1 battery upgrade fitting problem

So I finally got round to upgrading the battery on my Legion Go 1. The installation went fine, and it works well.

Problem is, when I try to fit the back panel, the lower left corner won't fit down, the battery thickness seems to be impeding it. The lower right corner fits fine. I removed the adhesive below the battery, and also the foam strips on the back of the battery plate.

I'm not sure what else I can do, other than not fit the battery plate, tape the wires to the battery and add some foam strips between the battery and the cover plate.

Is this a known issue? I appreciate there are different brands of battery out there. This one is L23B2PK0. According to the seller it is supposed to fit without any hard modifications to the body / cover plates.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Bazzite long shutdown on Legion Go 2

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers in troubleshooting something?

Background: I am running bazzite on a Legion Go 2. I recently cloned my Legion Go 1 disk, which was running bazzite, and dropped it into the Legion Go 2. It all works fine on the Go 2 - the os and any apps are working just fine - but I have a small issue that I didn't have on the Go 1. I have the Go 2 set to boot direct to the Steam gamemode (ie, just like the Go 1).

Issue: When I shut down the Legion Go 2 from the Steam gamemode, it shuts down fine - no problem here. When I shut it down from desktop, it initiates the shutdown, it displays the bazzite shutdown animation, it then spends a minute on a black screen, then, it displays a long series of text, and then eventually shuts down, maybe a minute after that.

I was assuming this is related to drivers/hardware; the fact that the Bazzite was set up on a Go 1 hardware, and there is some "issue" with running on Go 2 hardware. I am not sure how to fix this or where to go to perform any updates to bazzite. However, I am not sure if the following is related: on startup, there is a very, very brief message displayed when Bazzite is booting up, which says:

this OS version (Bazzite dracut-107-2.fc42 (Initrmfs)) is past its end-of-support date (2026-05-13)

I understand this relates to needing to rebase Bazzite - I need to look at this.

Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: I researched the "rebasing" issue, and have updated via the Terminal in Desktop to perform a rebase. This seems to have fixed the issue. My only question now is: why the Legion Go 1 not doing the same? Anyway, issue resolved I think.

Legion Go 2 vs Legion Go 1e : initial thoughts

So I pulled the trigger recently on a Legion Go 2 (thanks to you guys on this community for the advice). Context is: coming from a bazzite Go 1 z1 extreme

My initial take is:

- Legion Go 2 feels much more solid and well built, feels a bit more premium. Lovely looks, feels more refined and honed.

- Controllers: so far, I miss the flat sides of the Go 1, Go 2 is more curved and I need to adjust how to hold it. The flat sides on Go 1 are useful to help hold and stabilise the device whilst playing. Maybe I’ll adjust to this with time. I remember reading lots of reviews of the Go 1 bemoaning the ‘sharp’ edges and flat bits, I love them. Controllers don’t have any real perceptible wobble in the chassis.

- Controllers: right side thumb stick feels closer to the edge of the device, the Go 1 has more distance and so far I think I prefer Go 1 for this. Maybe it’s just a case of getting used to, but Go 1 feels much more comfortable for me. Left side controller feels equal between the two.

- Screen: Go 2 OLED is awesome, but the Go 1 screen is not bad at all by comparison. Quite close tbh.

- in Bazzite desktop: higher resolution of Go 1 is really nice, and Go 2 is perfectly usable. But kind of prefer Go 1 for the usability due to the better resolution.

- Function buttons: Go 2 puts the function buttons in different places, and adds two additional buttons for a total of 6. They’re actually great, and I just need to adjust my muscle memory. Ditto for the volume buttons, these are now right side on the Go 2. Love the big power buttons

- Customisation: disk replacement is a bit more involved, with a few components needing to be removed before you can access the disk position. But, you don’t need any extra interfaces to install a bigger/longer disk like 2280.

- D pad: circular type D-pad - sort of, has cross controller on the face. I have an upgrade mod but won’t be able to use my preferred metal cross d-pad which I prefer… it’s an insanely good mod on the Go 1. Will be installing the x box elite pad soon, cross pad doesn’t fit properly.

- Performance: I deliberate went for a Z2 cpu, not the Z2 Extreme: I don’t play AAA, mostly play emulation and medium taxing Steam titles. Battery seems to be better so far but hasn’t had too much time on it. So both have similar CPU performance according to the Internet. Haven’t had time to notice the difference yet, if any. But I understand Z2 will be more efficient power wise.

All in all: both devices are great, the Go 2 makes me realise how great the Go 1 is. For me, and my use case, it’s pretty close to call to be honest. The go 2 is beautiful to hold and feels more solid and premium, but the Go 1 is brilliant also, in its own way. I feel like I’ll grow into the Go 2. I can’t speak to the performance hike of the Z2e - I didn’t get this - but I was never going to outlay that much money for that level of gain. Will see how it goes over next 2-3 weeks and will probably report back here!

Disk cloning

Hi all. Just got a disk cloner device to duplicate my Legion Go nvme disk with Bazzite and full setup of games etc, onto a second disk for my new Legion Go 2. I have not used this technique previously so new ground for me.

Cloning is taking a while - 2tb drive - and I understand cloning is sector by sector, not file based, so this takes longer as it copies data and empty space. About halfway at 5 hrs so it ain’t fast.

Will let you know how I get on. Plan is to drop the cloned disk into the Legion Go 2 hopefully later today (England match dependent 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿)

Legion Go 2: z2 vs z2 extreme

Hi all, I have a Legion Go with z1 extreme. I absolutely love this device. I use it 75% for emulation and 25% for some steam games, running bazzite (no dual boot) but I don’t play AAA titles or anything too heavy or taxing.

I am tempted by Legion 2 because of the OLED screen. There seems to be a massive price difference between the z2 model vs the z2 extreme, with the latter being 15-20% more powerful.

However for my use case, I can’t justify going for the z2e.
I’ve read z2 is essentially same power as z1e. So, if I upgraded I’d get essentially the same machine but with the all important OLED screen.

Is there any downside to the legion go 2 z2 version versus the z2e version?

Thanks all!

Ps: and can I drop my current legion go nvme right into a Legion Go 2?
