I am working on a canon-ish rewrite of Twilight, but its gay :P Bella = Belamy
There are a lot of Twilight rewrites on AO3, but most of them are canon rewrites. I am trying to stay close to canon while making some logical changes, such as era-accurate portrayals of Bela (18) being gay, Edward experiencing internalized homophobia, and Jake (19) being a manwhore. Also, a big change is that it's going to have some light omegaverse dynamics.
This is truly going to be rewritten, as in, I am rewriting every word. I am splitting chapters up. For example, Chapter 1 has been split into four parts. Chapter 1.1 originally had 2055 words, and when I got done with it, it now has 5847 words. As much as i love a good rewrite, some feel like they just went into words and replaced names.

Here is an AN of all the changes I am going to make.
This is a challenge to myself to start and finish a project. I want to rewrite the saga, but I'm going to start with the first movie. A big change will be renaming the Quileute Tribe to Quenali, mainly because the Quileute are a real tribe, and I think it was disrespectful of Stephanie Meyer to use them.
Bela’s Character
I'm going to try to stay as close to Bela’s personality as possible while giving him a more defined personality and making him less unlikable. I'm going to add some traits I believe he would have if Bela were to be gay. Given the year 2005 and his living in a larger city, he is going to have a backbone. He is going to be more shy than socially awkward. My biggest problem with Bela is that she is a bad friend, so I'm going to make him a good friend and hang out with his human friends more. Also, he is going to be an omega.
Edward’s Character
Edward has always been gay, but growing up in the era he did, he internalized a lot of homophobia. He is accepting of queer people, but he is conflicted and in denial about himself. I'm going to give him a bit more personality. In the books, he was much more sarcastic and funny.
Jacobs' Character
Aged up, I am going with the idea I heard that Jacob could have either imprinted on Bela or on Edward. Also, if you are into omegaverse, here's what's going to happen. Jacob is going to be a beta in the pack until Breaking Dawn, but his secondary gender is going to be Alpha.

I am using Belamy rather than just doing Beau because that's been done before, and I have a headcanon of Beau being Bella's brother or son.
