Airline cancelled my ticket after a booking split, claims I requested a refund. What can I do?
Hi everyone, I’m facing a nightmare scenario with an airline and desperately need advice.
My girlfriend and I booked a flight for May 31st from Mexico to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both passengers were originally under the same booking reference. Later, we decided to split the reservation. The airline completed the split and issued two separate ticket numbers.
However, on May 2nd, I noticed a random refund of $87 USD (which corresponds exactly to the airport tax / TUA).
I contacted the airline to check what was going on, and to my surprise, they told me that the ticket under my name (SERGIO FERRARO) has been fully REFUNDED. They claim that I voluntarily went to their website and went through the refund process myself—which is 100% false. I never requested this.
Now, they are refusing to do anything. They won't reinstate my ticket for May 31st, and they haven't even refunded the full amount of the flight (only the $87 tax).
I’ve already tried contacting them via WhatsApp and email, but I keep getting the same canned responses. Calling them is impossible because nobody answers the phones.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? What are my options here? Can I fight this through my credit card company or a consumer protection agency?
Thanks in advance.
