Please help me on how to improve their tank/setup
So they have the aqueon smart clean filter it doesn’t have the temp regulator, there is three sprouts of red fern (I recently trimmed one because it was a bit dead) and some moss. There is also the plant that’s tall in the back not sure what it’s called. We used the sand substrate stuff from petsmart. The little hideouts are stable but if getting an actual put together one is better we’re willing to improve in whatever way necessary. It’s not clean rn either, we need to implement a system to actually be able to clean said sand. But rn we have two babies in there one is 4 months the other is new not too sure how old. I believe the first one is a female because she’s pear shaped and the new one looks slim so could be a boy but not sure. However I want to make this tank setup very easy to maintain and clean but also the best possible environment for them. Please send any and all recommendations! The light can be adjusted to be a lower brightness as well and only goes for 8 hours and turns “night” light on for 2 and it’s off the rest of the time. The filter is on a low stream since they don’t swim well. I put one of the ferns right by the intake so they don’t get stuck on it and to make sure the flow isn’t too strong. I also do water changes at least weekly too! I was just out sick for a week and came back to the tank very green so I spot cleaned as much as possible. This unfortunately is already an upgrade from how they were taking care of her before but I want to give them the best life. So please help and send any and all recommendations!
