Scratches on new 986

I recently purchased my first Alden loafers and finally got to receive them yesterday. The unboxing was exciting as the parcel came all the way from the US to HK. The quality of the shoes are excellent except that there are few scratches on the shell. I am just wondering if these are acceptable (I have CJ Harvard 2 in whisky shell and TBH they came with scratches too) or they are too noticeable that should be regarded as defects?

Getting my first Alden Colour 8

Have tried 684 in a local retailer and impressed by the colour and texture of the shell

I own CJ Grantham in dark brown and CJ Harvard 2 in Whisky cordovan and Berwick full strap in brown suede.

If I am to add my first Alden to my collection, which should be my first pick, 684 or 986?
