If you see an Amazon cargo e-quad parked in a bike lane...
Have you spotted an Amazon delivery quad on DC streets in recent weeks? They’re part of a DDOT-Amazon MicroFreight DC Pilot Program.
From DDOT’s project page (which includes a vehicle photo): “Cargo e-quadcycles are a type of electric cargo bike that replaces traditional delivery vehicles for the final portion of a delivery's journey. Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) will deliver Amazon packages from a microhub in Southwest DC, where packages are loaded onto the cargo e-quads for final delivery.”
Community members have let WABA know about Amazon quads parked in DC bike lanes on 4th St. NW, 6th St. NE, and New Jersey Ave SE. See an NJ Ave. SE example below. Parking in a bike lane is both illegal and contrary to the pilot terms. We’ve reported the incidents to DDOT; our contacts promised to take the incidents up with Amazon.
You can help. If you spot an Amazon cargo quad parked in a bike lane, please snap a photo. Include or record the vehicle number and if convenient, report the incident via https://311.dc.gov/ — choose Parking Enforcement. Pick No Stop Stand Bike Lane as the enforcement concern. Then send the 311 case number to me with the photo, vehicle number, and time and street address of the infraction, at seth.grimes@waba.org, or just send the photo and information if you didn’t file a 311 report.
