New Laterano NPCs from Persona 3 Reload Collab

A follow up to my previous post since it hit the 20 image limit and most of these new sprites don't have more than one expression

I'm only including Laterano characters (including Doctor and Amiya) for this one, since all of the P3R characters are in the other post.

New CN Event NPC

Her name is 夏妮 which I think translates to Shiane based on her internal ID arkvent_char_700_shiane (Can also be Shani or Shane). She was briefly teased in the CN summer livestream and she appears in the new Interactive Exhibition gamemode as a guide.

She has an idle animation and special animation which I rendered and uploaded as mp4 for people to enjoy: Idle animation and Special animation (No full art unfortunately, only the face icon in second pic)

New Character Expression Sheets for "Until the Land Becomes An Orange"

Thought these were too good not to share.

I generated these as an experiment while working on an update for http://closure.wiki/ and they turned out pretty good. I've cropped the faces to a centered 192x192px and arranged them in a 3-column grid which looks relatively decent. I wasn't sure if Reddit/Twitter/FB/etc does well with transparent backgrounds so I've layered it on top of a black background to see if that will help when compressed (which I may revert, or use a white BG)

If there's interest, I might make this a regular thing and release a fresh batch of expression sheets whenever a new update drops.

Deciphering the Ancient Sarkaz language featured in Camille's trailer

First of all, this is not the first time we have encountered the Ancient Sarkaz language. The known vocabulary draws loanwords from Latin, Greek, English, Hebrew and Arabic, with no single dominant source language. The language has been documented and analyzed in the past, especially for IS5, such as here:

or here:

For starters, Camille's title is Agaš'mekanaz. This is interesting because we already know Agaš means "Intelligence," confirmed in earlier analysis of the IS5 UI. Building on that, mekanaz is likely an adjective tied to gathering intelligence in some way, since compound names always come in pairs, as explained by u/Intelligent_Cover828:

>In Sarkaz language it seems a noun comes before the adjective, while they were linked with a [']. The ancient Lord of Fiends Qui'lon also bore a name "(some kind of) hope" and every other ancient Sarkaz names listed above seemed to share the same structure "noun'adjective" as well.

Based on this, I believe mekanaz comes from the Hebrew root k-n-s (כ־נ־ס), which means "to gather, collect, assemble." It's the same root behind the word kanas (to gather) and kenes (a gathering). So Agaš'mekanaz would read as something like Intelligence Gatherer, which fits Camille's role as a sort of detective for Seš'qa.

So what does this text in his trailer mean?

>NAR'FANASMAM KASIFA
AL'BAŠTACUL'MAM ŠAFER ORI MAG'AE SANGUISO

There are a few clues we can immediately identify. Nar'fanasmam is similar to the previously known word Vul’fanasmam, meaning fantasy/illusion (幻想) from the IS5 PV.

Kasifa likely originates from Arabic Kashifa, the feminine form of Kashif, from the root k-sh-f (ك-ش-ف) meaning "to uncover, reveal, disclose." (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashif.) Building on this, Nar'fanasmam Kasifa translates to something like Illusion Revealer. It's also possible that Nar in Nar'fanasmam negates the meaning of Vul'fanasmam, turning the meaning illusion into truth, making Truth Revealer also a plausible contender. Both here fits the theme of the trailer and character, considering he says this line:

>Blood always reveals the truth. Your sins always finds you out.

In the second line, Sanguiso translates to blood (from Latin sanguis), and Mag'ae is also likely Latin related to the word Magus/Magae for mage, so a safe guess is that Mag'ae Sanguiso translates to Blood Arts (or Blood Arts user). So far, so good, and everything we have seen can be supported by clear evidence and relevance to the context. The rest is more difficult, and involves more guesswork than analysis.

Šafer may originate from the Hebrew root s-f-r, which gives sefer (ספר, book) and sofer (scribe). (It could alternatively relate to German Schäfer meaning shepherd) Ori (אורי) means "light" in Hebrew. Putting them together, Šafer Ori might read as something like "Scribe of Light" or "Book of Light." That said, this interpretation is unclear as it is difficult to see the relevance to the context.

AL'BAŠTACUL'MAM is the most difficult one to decipher. The al prefix likely functions as an article/connector (Arabic al-, "the"), so the meaningful stem is probably baštacul (with -mam meaning plural as confirmed in past analysis)

The most phonetically direct match for this is the Persian basta (بسته, "bound, tied," from bastan, "to bind"), and a "binding" sense isn't too out of place in this context. Taken compositionally, al (the) + baštacul (bound) + mam (plural) could vaguely translate to something like "the bound ones", although this is pure guesswork.

So for what the full subtitle means, my best guess is that they are titles/descriptions for Camille or the Keepers. We are still missing pieces, but so far we can barely make out terms like "Illusions" "Reveal" "Bound(?)" "Scribe", and "Blood". How they're meant to fit together will probably have to wait for more source material. Let me know if I missed anything.
