My budgie has staphylococcus, half of its facial feathers fell out after antibiotic treatment. Need advice!
Hello everyone,
Back in January, my bird was diagnosed with a Staphylococcus bacterial infection. The vet prescribed Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid) and told me that the feathers would slowly grow back.
However, there has been no improvement since then. Recently, half of the feathers on its face (around the eyes and beak) have completely fallen out.
I am very worried that the bacteria became resistant, or this might be a secondary fungal infection (like yeast/aspergillus) due to the antibiotic usage ruining the immune system. It could also be mites or viral (PBFD).
- Location: Turkey
- Previous Medication: Augmentin (in January)
- Current Symptoms: Severe feather loss on the face, no regrowth elsewhere.
Now, there is no avian vet here in village. Any advice on how to support its immune system right now would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
(I have some Röhnfield product such as GervitW, BT-Amin Forte, Usnegano and probiotic.)
