Pros to a card

Hi. I'm considering applying for a card with one of the Locals I've worked with in the 3 years I've done stagehand work. Primarily wanting to join for both more consistent work and to learn more (both in the job / tasks and the union inter workings).
However, the local I'm looking into is not small, but smaller. We're in NC and primarily we work with a theater for broadway tours with this local, occasionally other small jobs. But we love the people and the team and would prefer this local over others we've done work with.
My question is: what would be the benefits to getting a card vs staying an overhire? Not looking to tour, just stay local. Would we likely get more work or stay about the same?
Thanks everyone!
