Technician Maintenance Tunnel?

After searching for info on this for an hour or so and coming up blank, I now turn to reddit with this question. I managed to get myself softlocked in Disco already and am terrified of it having happened again.
About 18 hours in, I talked to the technician at the bazaar for the first time. He told me to go check out the terminal on the roof. I took the pelota ball out of the door earlier, so I had no way in - I interacted with the door when the technician wasn't there, he still told me to go look for a maintenance tunnel to get in (worried that him talking to me out of nowhere might've caused an issue).
I have no idea where that tunnel is supposed to be, I've looked around the entire area and beyond that like an idiot to no avail. Could anyone direct me towards it? Do I even NEED to access this terminal to proceed or is there another way to progress (I still have some loose ends to pursue)?
