Halls vs staying at home 2027
Hi!
I'm a year 13 student who's looking at going to UC for next year.
Because I live in chch, I've always just assumed I would make the financially responsible choice to stay at home for the first year of uni. However, recently I have been having second thoughts, and have been considering if halls maybe the better option.
I've been worried that staying at home the first year would set me back socially, and i wouldn't make too many friends.
I would receive little financial support from my parents if i stayed in halls, so can't really look into the fully catered options - only really the self catered option at ilam student flats that are cheaper. However, I realise that these are flats, and may not be super social in comparison to larger halls.
I would love to hear how students who stayed at home found their first year...
Did you make many friends, general advice, and if you would do it again/regret it?
I would also love to hear from anyone in ilam flats or anyone with an opinion haha.
Thank you!
