My neighbor listed me as her son’s emergency contact and told his school I’m his uncle. What should I do?
I work from home and my neighbor across the hall knows I’m usually around. I’ve helped her son a couple times when he forgot his key and once watched him for maybe 20 minutes while she ran to the store. We’re friendly but definitely not close.
Yesterday I got a call from his school saying he was sick and his mom wasn’t answering. I was confused how they even had my number and the woman told me I’m listed as his uncle and an authorized person to pick him up.
I called my neighbor and she admitted she put me down because she has no family nearby and figured I’d be okay with it since I’m home a lot. She said it was only for emergencies.
Being around more doesn’t mean I want responsibility for someone else’s kid. What bothers me more is that she told the school I’m family without even asking me.
She thinks I’m making a huge deal out of something harmless. Should I tell her to remove me and leave it there, or should I call the school myself and tell them I never agreed to any of this?
