Where to start with Joyce carol oates?

I love lurking around her Twitter account, so I'm thinking about trying one or two of her novels - but she's written well over 20 (I think?) Any experts know where I should start?

I read this a few years ago and enjoyed it well enough, but I've had to pick it back up for a class recently and it's really... bad? It reads like poorly paced YA, Circe herself is incredibly shallow, and it feels like something written by a 'fan' of Greek myth, if that makes any sense?

I do like the way the titans are described - Prometheus has this deep mossy smell which makes him seem like something both absolutely of this earth and, at the same time, inextricably alien - but otherwise it's all just so very dull. Anyone else find this?
