Came out fine. Im halfway through reassembly here and I've got 7 screw left. I tested all the other screws, they all go in easy, but they're too long for that hole. If fully inserted they poke out into the cylinder area, so the cylinder doesn't fit. So I know I have the right screw.
What gives? It goes in about halfway then gets stuck.
Today I took apart and reassembled my Garand rear sight. I was using a laser bore sight the entire time.
The video I was watching for reassembly didn't state to put the aperture at any specific height when reinserting the windage/elevation drums, he just eyeballed it. I did the same, following the video. Guy seemed like he knows what he's doing.
Before disassembly the laser dot was half covered by the front sight post, after reassembly the laser dot is slightly above the front sight post, even though the elevation drum was set to 200 in both cases.
I feel like there must be some specific way/height to put in the rear aperture so that thr zero is "correct"? Like if I put it in wrong, the numbers on the drum won't actually align with what the zero is, like if I really fucked it up it would actaully be zeroed to 800 when the drum is sey to 400 because of the height being wrong during reassembly, do you know what I mean?
Or more likely it would be zeroed at 450 when the drum is set to 300, or something like that. Am I tweaking or is this a real thing?
While ago I bought some Minie balls of .577, but they ended up being to big to fit in the barrel and I had to file them down. What size is recommended?
Edit: forgot to mention its an original made in 1861. Assuming it'll be a bit different from modern reproduction.
I've been wanting an old black powder percussion revolver for a while, this would go nicely with my original 1853 Enfield. Thoughts on markings, condition? I think its Upper Canada issue provenance is legitimate, but I'm no expert. What's a decent price? This is in Canada BTW.
