It feels like we’re losing and I don’t know how to help anymore

Things have gotten so bad in the past year globally, and now with US midterms coming up we’re being used as a pawn.

This week the actual pdf.file Matt Gaetz used the words, “I hate the war too. But the democrats want to trans your kids.” And it’s working. The same people who scream “protect the children” listen to this creep

It feels so absurd, like this whole thing is happening because the richest man in the world is running a campaign to wipe us out because he prefers that to loving his own daughter

I left Texas when HB 3817 picked up steam. It would have created the jail felony of “gender identity fraud,” which carried an automatic two year sentence for changing our gender marker. There is only one word I can think of that encapsulates the creation of a criminal class based on identity status alone. It’s the ugliest thing humans have ever created

I left friends and chosen family behind in hopes of finding a better life. I wanted to advocate for us from somewhere I thought people might want to help. But I only found the same transphobia, just wearing a disguise

Democrats are throwing us under the bus as collateral damage in hopes that it gets them elected. I’m no stranger to utilitarian ideas and know the GOP has to be stopped

It just hurts so much to be the sacrificial scapegoat

I used to know how to help. I decided to apply to medical school and make a career in service to our community. I made the grades, scored in the 95th percentile on the MCAT, volunteered in an LGBTQ clinic, and did public health research

I said “transgender” with my whole chest in the application process. I got rejected. I don’t know if I should try again

I work as a paramedic and that used to pay the rent due for my transness in the eyes of the phobes. I’m gentle and good at my craft. Five years ago it mattered

Now all they see is someone they fear. They don’t want me near their children, even if it’s critical. My coworkers don’t listen to a word I say. They don’t see my qualifications either. Only my transness

The only thing keeping me here is spite

What do we do to not feel so helpless?

My neighbor killed someone

I found out my neighbor’s full name from a package in the mailroom. Gave him a Google and a high-profile robbery-manslaughter case came up with his mugshot. He was released from prison last year. It’s been decades since the incident, but I still don’t know how to feel about this being my neighbor

Background: we live in a high-rise with the world’s thinnest walls and have been passive-aggressively feuding with slammed cabinets and noise complaints over dropped phones. I work nightshift and he gets audibly upset at small noises like opening the microwave door. I feel like I have to pretend like I don’t exist during quiet hours

I called 911 for suspected DV last year, but in retrospect, I think it might have just been his kids roughhousing. When my eardrum ruptured he walked over to the wall to loudly mock me for crying. He made sure I could hear him

I’ve seen him a few times in the hall but we’ve never spoken. Only exchanged the stink eye

Now I feel a little sick knowing his history. People change and everyone deserves somewhere to live. But it feels weird man, knowing that I’ve beefed with someone like this. What would you do to feel comfortable living here?

Stomp-stopping slipper suggestions?

I’m becoming aware that I might be the dreaded nightshift stomper in my poorly insulated high-rise

Pretending like I don’t exist in between tiptoe walks during my wakeful hours is starting to wreck my mental health and productivity

Now taking suggestions for slippers that might make my neighbors less resentful of my existence and let me live more normally

My neighbors laughed at me when my eardrum burst

I live in a concrete high rise. It’s so poorly insulated you can hear normal volume conversations word for word in the hallway

Yesterday my eardrum burst from an infection. I whisper-swore and cried quietly for about ten minutes. Nothing louder than a whisper

I hear my neighbor shuffle over to the corner I’m balled up in. Through the wall I hear distinctly “now it’s crying!” They snicker and continue talking trash. I can make out a few things like “this guy is crazy.”

This isn’t the first time they’ve acted like high school bullies over normal communal living noises, just the most hurtful

Wtf do you do with neighbors this toxic? How do you ignore it?
