I spied this one at St. Vinny.

Hi! This is my first post here. I like to thrift glass and I recently expanded my list of possibilities! St. Vincent de Paul’s is my go to and I spotted this one like it had a big shiny arrow!
Is it scratched? Yes. It’s not my first piece of Pyrex but I can let the kids use it. I looked up how to clean the gray scratches off and I will try it the baking soda/dish soap method.
Happy Saturday!

Robert Reich was correct

Hi! I was reading the substack by Robert Reich and I have to say he is always right. He sees the whole political picture clearly and he hands you the facts about recent history. Is anyone thinking about the non-voter? So many millions of people were turned off from participating because of the policies of the Clinton and Obama administrations. They didn't all go Maga, many of them just gave up. Trade agreements that abandoned whole communities, bailouts for Wall Street. We really didn't get much from those 16 years. Just left further and further behind.

Edit to add: My first vote was in 1984. I was super excited to vote for the Mondale/Ferraro ticket. I have to go to the "Computer Savvy" workshop at the library every month because I am technophobic. That was where I learned about Reddit.

My sources are: "Bill Clinton, New Guilded Age President" by Patrick Maney : "Neoliberalism From Reagan to Clinton" , "Casualities of Clintonism" the baffler.com : "Bill Clinton Concedes Role in Mass Incarceration" CNN : "Did the 1994 Crime Bill Cause Mass Incarceration" the Bookings Institute : "The Mendacity of Hope" by Rodger Hodge : "Change We Can Believe In, Barack Obama's Plan To Renew America's Promise" by Barack Obama

My given: Bill Clinton lowered childhood poverty from 26% to 16% by expanding the childhood tax credit. Barack Obama created the Affordable Care Act

  • Increased Coverage — Over 20 million adults gained health coverage since the ACA's implementation.
  • Medicaid Expansion — The ACA expanded Medicaid in 40 states, covering 21 million low-income adults.
  • Pre-existing Conditions — Approximately 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions are protected from losing insurance.
  • Preventive Services — 39 million beneficiaries have free access to preventive medical services.

So I will concede that there were some achievements by those administrations. However, neither one of them spent much political capital on improving the material conditions of the working class.

I want more.

Oregon Data Center Advisory Committee

The OR Data Center Advisory Committee (DCAC) Session 5 on "Energy Affordability, Revenue, and Incentives" is this Friday, June 26, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm PDT. The meeting agenda, complete with speaker details, is posted to the DCAC website. On the website you can also find all DCAC meeting materials from past sessions including recordings, presentation slides, and summaries. A recording of this week's meeting will be posted to the website within 1-3 days following the session.

If you haven't signed up for this week's Session 5 webinar please register in advance at the DCAC website.

As with all previous sessions, the DCAC will continue to dedicate 30 minutes towards the end of each meeting (at 3:30 pm for this session) for public comment. Comments for this and future meetings should be specific to the topic area and on the State's interest relative to the session topic. Non- or multi-topic comments will be welcomed at the fall Public Listening Session #3 scheduled for September.

Individuals wishing to participate in topical public comments during Session 5: ENERGY AFFORDABILITY, REVENUE & INCENTIVES must please request a 2-minute time slot via email to datacenter.ac@oregon.gov 24 hours in advance. Please include:

  1. Name and affiliation (if applicable)
  2. Meeting Date and Topic
  3. A brief summary of Your Comments

15 slots will be booked on a first come first served basis and a balance of comments received that the facilitator will announce at the start of the meeting and again at 3:30 pm. Priority will be given to those who have not spoken at prior meetings to ensure the DCAC hears many voices.

TLDR: the DCAC is meeting again. This time on the cost increase of energy production and distribution. At 3:30 there will be a public comment period. The comments should be specific to the session topic. Register in advance to make a comment at the website.
