Pure Hexblade or Hexblade Paladin?

Hey all! Finally playing through the game all the way (I've played up to the third act, so no spoilers for that please) and I'm wondering what to do for my Dark Urge character. I've started her out as a hexblade but I'm tempted to multi class into Paladin. I would probably want to break my oath for the story (I'm trying to resist the urge and sometimes failing), but I also really like the witchy spell blade vibes of the Hexblade. So my main questions are:

How does pure 12 levels of Hexblade play? Can I use a giant sword some what optimally? My character likes giant swords.

How does it compare to a Hexadin? Probably 5/7 split although I'm not sure which class should be which. Honestly roleplay is more important to me than complete optimization but I really want to be a strong Frontline damager with spells, bonus points for a witchy creepy vibe (my character is a fucked up Tiefling with a heart of gold)

I'm playing on Tactician if that helps. I'll probably have Wyll do whatever build I'm not. I'm currently in Act 1 at Level 4 but can respec.

DA2 Fenris Rivalry or Friendship without romance

Hey all! I'm replaying through Dragon Age 2 and having a great time but I'm trying to decide whether or not to go down Fenris's friendship or rivalry path. For context my Hawke is a sarcastic mage who's probably going to romance Isabella. She's ambivalent to blood magic (it's a tool with a lot of danger, her attitude will probably evolve as the game goes on) but doesn't care for spirits at all (Justice freaks her out). Overall though I'd say her main ideal is Freedom and she's very pro mage, anti slavery, etc.

Because of her views this puts me in a predicament with Fenris, I really like Fenris, his backstory and demeanor is super interesting but I don't know if my Hawke would take his hatred of magic lying down. I know it's totally possible being friends with Fenris as an outspoken Mage supporter by not bringing him to certain things and hunting slavers with him, but is that dishonest? I'm a little worried about Rivalling him because I like him a lot and I know he grows to respect Hawke in that path but I'm not sure if they become friends who disagree on a lot of things which is kind of what I'm going for.

So basically, how is Rivaling Fenris as a mage when you're not romancing him? Is it worth not having him in the party for a big chunk of the Act 1 and 2 while I get his friendship up? Can you push back on his "All Mages are power hungry fools" schtick in the Friend path or does Hawke just sort of shut up and take that.

What should I do?
