AA apps are opening so I figured I would share my experience going through the whole process for yall :)

As we all know AA is opening again! I personally did not think they would since we already have a class or two postponed til next year but I am thankful since I have friends who want to come over. Everything I share is my personal experience so keep that in mind, I also dont know all the specifics since the process is always changing.

The first thing I want to say is be patient. NO LIKE BE SO PATIENT even compared to Delta, Hawaiian, Republic, Envoy, PSA, Piedmont, Allegiant etc because AA is slowwwww. I applied in September of last year, did my ODVI in October, and then didnt do my F2F til late November and didnt and didnt go to training until March. Its also a little more chaotic, with DL the timeliness between me applying, doing my assessments and getting to my f2f was basically like 4 to 6 weeks. Don't expect that, and be ready to get a F2F with like two selectable dates with like 2 to 3 weeks notice. Not complaining obviously but I just want everyone who cares to read this to have reasonable expectations. I have heard it can move much faster if you are a speaker, I am not.

For the ODVI I literally did it in my skywest uniform (which was pretty nondescript) either in a hotel room or my crashpad bedroom floor. I had just been rejected from delta and didnt even know if I was ready so I just bulldozed through it and submitted. Obviously I had an idea what to say, but I didnt practice nor was I really rehearsed with it, which you cant really anyways since its timed.

For the F2F again, I had just been rejected from DL so I was like whatever. Obviously I dressed the part, was social and put on a smile, but I did not in any way try to stand out. Also side note DO NOT WEAR SCARVES AND TIES FROM OTHER CARRIERS HELLO! like even though american isnt an airline that wants you to come in being super brand proud that is just very very Obviously something you would not do haha. I got pulled aside for resume questions but that doesnt even happen to everyone and never had a one on one.

Training was strict but nowhere near as strict as skywest. It was stressful cause I had to actually quit my other job to come because I didnt have vacation days or leave but overall it was chaotic but manageable.

On the line its fun and the vibes are chill. You will always come across some bad apples but as long as you are positive and dont pay them any mind as well as always just remain open and receptive to people they are amazing.

I will tell you this though. We are not united and we are not delta. If you are expecting to work internationals on a regular basis that can be hard depending on the base since we have less international flying but the flying we do have is enjoyable especially compared to regional. Also if you are thinking you will get any satellite base, lax or phx out of training or even in your first few years, forget about it. We are not growing on the west coast and the wait lists are years long from what I hear.

Over all I love this company, I wish we had more international and we're a little more premium but im in it for the long haul and all of the major carriers have had their ups and downs. Wishing you all nothing but the best and hope to see you in the sky soon!!
