I'm getting sick of being gaslit about how great US economy is.

I have a Doctoral degree in a field with high need (psychologist) I've been looking for work since March.

I have specialist experience & I have been doing research for the last decade. With government funding takebacks I decided it's time to go back into clinical work.

EVERY. SINGLE. PRACTICE. in my area is FFS or 1099. That's Total bullshit. None of us spent 10 years and over 200k getting educated to be reduced to Gig work.

Our Healthcare system REALLY sucks, not just for patients but for providers as well, they're squeezing us dry for shit wages, not paying for note and treatment planning hours or no-shows.

I don't understand how we got here. I'm looking daily but most days there's nothing worth applying to after you weed out this predatory BS.

The next time you're perplexed about how run down and fed up your therapist looks. Now you know why.

It's these unregulated for profit models demanding high caseloads, shit compensation and demoralizing employment contracts.

edit: I don't want to keep replying to this one specific question.

Private practice is not an option for everyone. It requires a significant upfront investment that is usually quite difficult for somebody who is unemployed.

There are regulatory hurdles, expensive insurance burdens, credentialing issues and a lot of insecurity that many providers don't have the resources to manage especially if they don't have another income sorce to supplement ramp up.

The idea that it's no big deal to "hang a shingle" oversimplifies the reality.

If you don't understand the actual process step by step outside of your own experience and state don't argue the point with someone who has evaluated the situation and repeatedly explained its not a viable option for them.
