Did I buy a lemon or am I doing something wrong?

In May I purchased this drive, the LG WH16NS60: https://www.ebay.com/itm/206262025139

It was advertised as crossflashed and UHD MakeMKV ready. Here is the current drive info on my copy of MakeMKV.

I have used this drive to rip 10-15 Blu Ray discs so far, and have had no trouble reading Blu Rays so far. However practically all UHD discs I have inserted have failed to read. Out of the 10-15 or so (both brand new and older) UHD discs I have tried so far, only 1 has succeeded in opening and ripping. Most of the discs will spin in the drive for approx. 60 seconds and then stop without opening the disc. A few will recognize in MakeMKV and begin to open but then fail halfway through opening. Usually when inserting a UHD disc the drive will make a "hiccup" sound that I don't hear when spinning regular BDs.

Attached above is a video of the drive spinning a UHD.

I have tried connecting it directly to my motherboard via an open SATA slot and also use a USB>SATA adapter with external power. Both connection methods have the same result. I have run a disc cleaner from BestBuy inside the drive, not sure if there is another one I should try.

Prior to this I bought a brand new Verbatim/LG BU40N from Amazon which does not read discs anymore after <6 months and only ripping <200 discs both UHD and BD. I really seem to be having bad luck with LG drives.

Is this WH16NS60 a bad drive or is there more I can do to troubleshoot?

Kodi scanning works on Windows but fails on Android/Dune player

Hello, hoping someone can help out with a frustrating issue!!

I've been building a new media library on a hard drive and it's much easier to run Kodi on my computer and import/catalog everything there so I can correct any titling/metadata/art issues with a mouse & keyboard. I figured once I got to a certain point in the library build, I would just export the library XML from my PC and import it onto my Dune 4K Player and start watching movies on the player. So I have around 200 movies and 10 shows currently, everything works perfectly on my PC. I imported all my files and set the library how I wanted to on PC Kodi.

When I move my hard drive over to my Dune, the Kodi app fails to scan anything! The individual files play just fine but Kodi says there are no video files when put into scan mode. I can directly navigate to any MKV video file, ask Kodi to scan it to library, and it fails. But it sees the video and plays it just fine!! My PC Kodi Library XML imports just fine into the Dune Kodi, so my beautifully organized library shows up fine, but none of the titles link back to the files on my hard drive!

Any advice welcome. Apps are up to date, and I've run fresh installs (cleaned data in Android) multiple times on my Dune and it continues to fail.
