Seeking clarity on shifting to Canada: SSE with 8 YOE
Hi Everyone,
I am a SSE in Bangalore with 8 YOE. My current CTC is 50lpa + rsu’s. I've worked in BLR my entire career. In my current company I work with a distributed team with teammates in India, Europe, and North America.
I like the work I'm doing in my current role. My manager is based in Canada, easy-going and we're on good terms. The thing is, he's asked me a couple of times if I'd be down to move to the Toronto office and offered to sponsor me.
At first, I wasn’t very interested because I have to leave my parents (currently I visit them once every 5-6 months). Also I was worried about living alone in Canada. That's a huge deal for me - it's literally why I hate WFH, go to the office most days, and stay in a PG just to be around people. Plus, I'm currently single, and planning to get married by mid of next year. I also just bought a house back home with a massive home loan.
Lately, I started thinking about Canada more. But I honestly can't tell if I actually want this or if it's just FOMO. I think am doing well in India but also thinking about the opportunity of working in a different country and the savings that I can make. I also haven't sat down and had a serious chat with my manager about what the pay and actual setup would look like over there.
So, considering all this:
- Is it worth moving to Canada at this point in my life and career ?
- What should I be asking my manager before even considering a move ?
- People who actually made the move to Canada, how is life and work over there ?
