IMMpact will not request a deadline for the PI

the head attorney gave an explanation in their recent live session after somebody asked that question. I thought his explanation made sense but I am not a lawyer. Go the recording of the live session they did yesterday to you listen to his explanation. I thought I would bring this to your attention since there has been so much chatting about requesting lawyers to negotiate a deadline for the PI in this channel.

Beyond the lawsuit: what you can do right now

I spent some time today reading through the stories on this channel, and the challenges many of you are facing, myself included, are real and serious. We are navigating an unprecedented moment as immigrants, and the frustration is legitimate. The pause has affected our mental health, finances, and relationships. It helps to focus on what you can control.

If you have joined a lawsuit, make sure your lawyers are negotiating a deadline for the preliminary injunction. Join their listservs, email them, call them.

But beyond the lawsuit, here are things we can all do.

Protect your mental health. Go outside. Go for a run or a walk. Volunteer in your community. Keep a low profile if you need to. I know some people are afraid, and that is valid but you can just stay coop in. Do what you need to do to protect your mental and physical health.

No job due to EAD. If you cannot work right now, build structure into your day. Complete tasks you have been putting off. Learn something new. Upskill. If networking matters in your field and you do not have a job lined up for when your EAD comes through, start networking online now. It is free. The job market is difficult right now, and having your strategy and network ready will help you move faster once you have that EAD.

Personal finances. Many immigrants do not have a financial safety net in the US. Use this time to learn about personal finance, including how to build an emergency fund and invest when you do have income. I recommend Ramit Sethi's books and podcast as a starting point, but there are many free resources available.

The USCIS Pause Tracker lists several actions you can take. Here is a summary with my thoughts.

Share your story on the tracker. You can do it anonymously. It builds a database that journalists can draw from when reporting on this issue.

Contact Congress and your state attorney general. The tracker provides templates. If you are not comfortable reaching out directly, ask US citizen friends, partners, or family members to do it on your behalf. Draft the key points for them so it's easy for them to do it.

Contact the media. Coverage of this pause has been thin. Reach out to local and national outlets, explain the situation briefly, and mention how it is affecting you. They may be interested in reporting your story, with anonymity if needed.

Contact social media creators you follow and trust. Tell them what is happening and ask them to raise awareness.

Please share more action items people can do in your responses below.
