Hand therapy

Hands are a huge way for someone to gain independence, so I am wondering if anyone has any tips on what’s worked for them to get hand strength and function back?

I am a caregiver for someone with a c5/6 incomplete. They do OT and he wears hand braces that stretch his hands out overnight. Uses assistive devices to eat and has some ability to move fingers on right hand, not so much the left hand.

UTI management

I am a caregiver of someone with a c5/6 incomplete SCI and UTI’s have been a nightmare, they don’t seem to ever go away.

He uses a condom catheter and can feel when he has to pee, but control is an issue. He also retains urine, and because of that we cath him twice daily (AM and PM) to get the retained urine out. When we cath, we do use iodine but the UTI never seems to go away.

He has taken antibiotics in the past, and he even takes those cranberry pills, but his urine is always cloudy and a little smelly. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to get rid of UTIs?

Rain clothing

Hiking in late June, am bringing a puffer but debating whether or not to bring a rain jacket? Or any other rain gear?

I read that time of year gets rain typically late afternoon / early evening, but not sure if bringing a rain jacket is worth the extra weight.

My father is a C5/6 incomplete. For the last year our aide has been a family friend, but the family friend may need to cut hours with us after the summer, so we are looking for a way to find a good home health agency recommendation so we can have an aide that is able to handle someone with a SCI.

For anyone that lives in nyc, any recommendations? Or if you don’t live in NYC, are there any ways you’ve found useful for finding an aide or agency?
