stage 3 takeaways

  1. I was worried about Vingegaard yesterday, but today he really stepped up. Initially I thought he exploded when he started looking behind, but he found an extra gear. Vingegaard was clearly second best today, and Pogacar did an all out effort, while only taking 2 seconds. That is much better than yesterday's performance.

  2. Remco Evenepoel shows weekness again. You never know where you have him. Letting the wheel go that early could indicate, that he still has some problems in the high mountains. However we never know with this guy, but his problems in the high mountains has been ongoing since his 3rd place in 2024

  3. Ben Healy dropped early today, in spite of the stage fitting him very well. It seems like he has not found his form this tour.

  4. Ben O'connor has a lot of difficulty finding his form. When he finds his form, he can really be very good, like in the Vuelta 2024. But the tour is a hurdle he can't get over, since his 4th place in the 2021 Tour, he has struggled to reach the same level of success.

  5. Alex Baudin is super strong. I was very surprised by his ride in Auvergne, but he continues to show, that he is one of the best in the peloton. Doing most of the work in the breakaway and then going solo with a hunting UAE was nice to see. He might keep the Maillot à Pois Rouges for the next couple of days, if he can get in the breakaway tomorrow.

  6. Kevin Vauquelin was disappointing. I did not expect him to drop that early. He does have major problems in the mountains, but he could have done better today.

  7. Armirail's crash could be a big problem for Visma. He can be so good at keeping on the pressure in vital moments, that Visma has to make changes to their strategy if he is not feeling well.

Great stage today, maybe I criticized Vingeggard to much yesterday

Stage 2 takeaways

  1. Pogacar looks extremely strong. Having the energy to follow Del Toro while looking over his shoulder is a show of force I haven't seen before. He did not attack on Montjuic, but the headwind properly played a role in stopping any early attacks. However, too much confidence is never good. Vingegaard could have traded punch for better abilities in the mountains, so I won't jump to final conclusions yet.

  2. even though I won't jump to conclusions yet, I still find Vingegaard's performance worrying. I learned yesterday that Pogacar rode 5 seconds faster than Vingegaard over the last 800 meters. this is very significant since Vingegaard did not take a single pull before the last climb. Today he exploded in the wheel of Del Toro. As before mentioned, he could have traded punch for climbing abilities, some say he is as light as ever. But we have to remember that he followed Pogacar on climbs as these both in 2024 and 2025. I will be waiting until the Tourmalet for confirmation on his form.

  3. I never know how to look at Remco Evenepoel. Some days he looks as strong as ever, some days he is raging and some days he gets dropped on the first speed bump. But today he looked very strong. there was a big gap behind Pogacar, which he closed by himselfs in the last 600 meters. We can only hope that he has found the key to the Tour de France.

  4. Mcnulty has really found his form. I was super impressed by his performance today, he dropped a lot of riders. he has not been in the tour since 2022. huge kudos to him.

  5. Del Toro keeps improving. His performance in Auvergne, showed that he had the ability to ride in the big mountains. He will be super interesting to watch over the next stages. He even had a puncture today.

  6. Hopefully the Pyrenees will tell us a lot more about Pogacar and Vingegaard's form

Stage 1 Takeaways

  1. Visma's strategi is working as intended, 10 ish seconds is not much, but Jonas is not the big aggressor and is way more comfortable riding in a defensively. the stage also gave them a confidence boost after years of being behind

  2. Pogacar rode the last kilometer 3 seconds faster than Jonas Vingegaard. While this is not a major difference, it may reflect Pogacar's advantage in shorter efforts, which will be important for stage 2. However I thought it would be more.

  3. Evenepoel rode away from Lipowitz on the final climb. properly to secure himself as the leader on the team. But it will be interesting to see how he has progressed in his longer climbing efforts.

  4. even though Seixas lost much time today, he still looks very strong. However his durability is still an unanswered question.

  5. UAE could have done better. They had 4 guys in the top 10 in the swiss ITT. In and interview they said that Politt was not supposed to drop that early, but he was cooked after sitting behind the significantly smaller Pogacar.

  6. Headwind on stage 2 will make it difficult for early attacks and much easier for Vingegaard
