Can we address the real reason by scooter accidents are happening all the time???
I’m sick and tired of reading all of these threads blaming the parents for having scooters and blaming the children for being on streets
As parents, you can tell your children and educate them 100% as a child you’re not gonna listen to that parent especially when you go look at something and it seems and looks super fun… if a child is gonna go decide that they want to ride a scooter they’re gonna go do it whether the parent realizes that or not they’re gonna lie to that parent and go get on that scooter.
Just because a parent has a talk, doesn’t mean the kids gonna listen
That’s why this is getting out of control
These scooters are literally so easily accessible as their stations everywhere one on Hastings actually where you don’t have to put ID you don’t have to have a credit card and you can get a scooter. Also the instruction says don’t go on the sidewalk so where do you think all these kids are gonna go straight into the road Where nothing is organized planned or anything the city put these scooters in….
This is a new thing for everybody to digest! I’m personally terrified of scooters motorcycles. Anything with two wheels that goes fast I almost fell over on a dirtbike because I made my friend drive so slow. I am terrified, but what can you do when the city is literally putting stations on every block and letting people rent them with no ID and no credit card yeah it says 16+ but do you think any kid is gonna to even pay attention to that???
I grew up in a city where the main road that has nothing but sharp blind corners, literally would be used by cyclists that are racing and you’d come around a corner and have just a second to react, but we were taught to pay attention to the road…. And somehow we learned how to share the road. And I’m not talking just you know people out for a bike ride. I’m talking no shoulder giant cliffs and these are literally site race cyclist so they are going faster than cars…… where there’s ocean a cliff side on one side and then just a big old rock face on the other side there’s nowhere to crash into except for death and somehow we all managed. Also back, then we didn’t have computers in our dashboards either….
The city needs to build infrastructure or educate, drivers and scooter
I personally think they need to be licensed. I don’t think you should be able to take a scooter out without having a valid license for scooters
So our city, our government needs to deal with that ASAP enough with blaming the parents with blaming the children enough with blaming every single person out there rather than fix the problem!!!!
Those kids that were hit on Hastings didn’t even own a scooter. They had gone and borrowed it from another kid. The scooters are so easily available Eddie which way you look at the city is promoting bike lanes and scooters on our busy roads with cars that literally have computers in their dashboard. Now there’s no buttons anymore. You have to scramble to even try and turn up the heat and try and see a screen that’s probably all faded from the sunlight and then scroll on your playlist for your songs. I mean that’s distracted. Drivers are in every single car now so you’re gonna go put bikes and scooters on the streets with cars that have distractions like they’ve never had before and wonder why people are running down, pedestrians and scooters and bikers.
The city needs to do something they need to educate drivers pedestrians everyone or they need to make some changes and not try and make this a green city with bikers and scooters to go into traffic.
Where do the children find the rules for what’s allowed on scooters?
Where does it say that you have to be 16+
Where does it say that you should have a certain type of helmet?
And where does it say that you can’t double on one??
Nobody knows the rules, and they’re throwing everything together without any kind of organization or education or safety measures.
What do they think was gonna happen?
In a couple countries in Europe, I think it’s Denmark and another one, they encourage bike lanes, but they build their bike lanes a block away from traffic and their own lane
People come to Vancouver and are horrified by the fact that they throw bikes and scooters and everything into the middle of the most busy streets and then have city bikes, and city scooters available at every other block to just take and people that have no experience with them usually would take one of those so now you have the most inexperienced bikers and scooters going down the most busy intersections of our city and we wonder what’s going on????
Stop blaming kids
Our city is encouraging this does nobody else see that ????
Why do you think kids can get their hands on a scooter so easily? It’s not that their parents are buying it for them. It’s that they’re literally everywhere available by the flick of a switch.
Let’s address the real issue here. Distracted, driving and putting E scooters bikes, etc. all together in the same place isn’t going to work out time to fix this.
The cities who actually do the green biking lanes properly are literally horrified with what Vancouver has done
