[The Lord of the Rings] Can Arwen still walk on snow after marrying Aragorn?

In LOTR, Legolas is able to walk on top of thick snow while the other members of the Fellowship would sink into it and have to dig their way through. I assume this is something all elves like Elrond, Galadriel, and Arwen can do — though I don’t think we see any of them do it.

Since Arwen becomes mortal when she marries Aragorn (it seems), can she still walk on top of snow or would she sink into it like other mortals do? She seems to still be physically an elf (her ears don’t stop being pointy). But I think the snow-walking might be more of a magical thing than a biological thing, since I don’t think Legolas is actually physically lighter than the others.

Catholic-LDS Dialogue!

Hello Latter Day Saints of Reddit!

I’m a Catholic and, even though I am very happy being a Catholic, I have had a lot of positive experiences with people from your Church and I wanted to (if it’s ok with your mods) open up a thread for interfaith dialogue! I have some questions to start for you guys if anyone wants to engage and have a talk but I’m also happy to do a bit of an AMA if any LDS people want to learn more about Catholics or our relations with the LDS Church.

I think that, in a time where it’s trendy to solve disagreements by shouting at people in online “debates”, it’s good to start by finding some common ground and talk with people of different views. So I’ll start with my questions, feel free to add any you have for me or any comments. Mods please let me know if this isn’t the sub for this haha

  1. What do LDS people think about abortion? Do you find common ground with Catholics on this? Could we work together more on it?
  2. How do LDS people feel about the 7 Deuterocanonical Books? A lot of Protestants accuse Catholics of adding books like Wisdom and Sirach into the Bible, although they have been used since apostolic times. I know LDS people recognise a large canon so do you include these?
  3. I know LDS people value marriage and family a lot. How does your Church approach celibate figures such as Jesus, Paul, etc?
  4. LDS people don’t drink alcohol. Do you believe that Jesus and the Apostles followed this practice or is it viewed as a more modern LDS thing?
  5. Favourite Pope?

Hope we can find some common ground and dialogue!!! :-)

Does the Church still excommunicate people who shoot Christians with crossbows?

We prohibit under anathema that murderous art of crossbowmen and archers, which is hateful to God, to be employed against Christians and Catholics from now on. (Canon 29, Lateran II)

I’m interested to know the answer to this! This is a very unique canon I’ve heard of from Lateran II - it was brought up in a discussion on Church teaching on nuclear weapons - where the Church excommunicated those who shot a Christian/Catholic with a crossbow or other “archers” weapon. Does this still apply these days? If 2 Catholic countries went to war tomorrow and a soldier shot an opponent with a bow, would this result in excommunication where shooting him with a gun wouldn’t? If a Catholic soldier had no means of defending himself except a crossbow, would he be forbidden to use it, but could use a gun?

How difficult is it to live in a static caravan on private land? (Eng&Wal)

Rather than buying a house or finding some particular work that allows for it, would I be allowed to buy some agricultural land and, while intending to live in part off of produce from my own land, erect a static caravan there and live in it as my permanent and primary residence? How difficult would this be? Would it make a difference as to whether you farmed the land purely to grow some of your own food and having another means of income vs it being a business and primary source of income? If a specific council region is needed for info, please let me know and I can add that too. any advice appreciated, including practicals.
