I’m a Floridian who was driving in TN last week while on vacation. I was driving on US 64 and didn’t realize the speed limit dropped from 55mph to 45mph. I was also going downhill and didn’t realize my speed had increased. I thought I was going 65 in a 55 (yes, still speeding and that’s wrong), but an officer from Polk County apparently clocked me going 72 in a 45. He gave me a speeding ticket vs a reckless driving charge. This is my first ever ticket and I would have never intentionally done 25+ over the speed limit.

Do I have any chance of reducing this? If I hire an attorney to try to negotiate this down, could they retaliate and charge we with reckless driving instead? I’m so anxious about this.
