Mid City/BSJ “affordable” gyms

Looking for some combination of decently priced, clean, not overly crowded, and easy parking. There appear to be a number of studio fitness/pilates type places nearby but not gyms. My neighbors are all going to the fancier places but I’m hoping not to be spending $100 a month on a gym. Where are others going?

Outer cape beach parking

Which beaches have enough parking on a Friday late morning/early afternoon that I won’t have to fight for a spot? Need somewhere to hang out between rentals tomorrow but don’t want to get all the way there to be turned around. I’m an upper cape person so I’m unfamiliar with the area.

How do queer women find friends in NOLA?

I am a bisexual woman in my early 30s and just moved here by myself for work. Sorry that this absolutely reeks of transplant, but I'm from a very lefty East Coast bubble and did not realize that making friends, especially queer woman friends, in my early 30s would feel so hard. It's felt like most of the options (run club type things) haven't been operational in a few years, or only happen a few times a year. How are women making friends in the queer community, bonus points of you've done so having the experience of repeatedly showing up to things alone 😊

Fine frizzy hair

Any recommendations for treatments, products, etc. that have worked to tame the frizz for folks with fine, grease-prone frizzy hair? Willing to try anything outside the box; have already gone down the color wow, moroccan oil routes.

Cafe where I can set up for the day

Looking for somewhere with WiFi where I can set up for like 8 hours and they won’t have a problem but won’t be so busy I can’t find a seat when I get there in the morning - happy to keep buying drinks and food throughout the day. Where is best for this?

What sections are the time crunches?

Curious what others think are the sections that are hardest to finish in time vs easiest? Code II is definitely tight but what are the others folks are having a tricky time getting out?

SWB Email

Anyone have the email address to send documents to to start service/get an account with the Sewerage and Water Board? Have seen several "call to get the email address" comments on here but have never actually seen the email address, and when I've called I haven't talked to anyone helpful. I won't be able to make it to their office in person for the next 3 weeks but need to get my water turned on ASAP.

Louisiana bar exam logistics question

Silly question but how strict is Louisiana about bringing snacks into the exam room with you in that clear gallon bag you're allowed to bring? Granola bars and gummy bears saved me during the California bar . . .

If food isn't allowed, what do people do for lunch? It's not like the convention center in Westwego is surrounded by food options and you're not even allowed to bring your cell phone into the bolding.

Lynda Vitry (landlord)

Any experience with her? On the verge of signing a lease and have seen both positive and negative reviews, but all old, in the bad landlords FB group. Any information appreciated.

How bad is street parking in Uptown?

Moving to New Orleans and hoping to be somewhere in Uptown between Jefferson and Louisiana, close to Magazine. How much street parking is really available in that area? Will I be constantly fighting for my life to get a spot? I know Magazine is mostly all paid and that street parking is available on the side streets (where I plan to be anyway)...but how much is there really? Just wondering to what extent it's worth increasing my rental budget for to get a place with off-street parking, which is seemingly rare.

Where to live: BSJ or near Magazine bt Jefferson/Louisiana?

I am in my early 30s and moving to New Orleans for residency. I am very physically active and have a dog (and a car). I value peace and quiet but not total isolation, and it's a priority of mine to avoid major flooding to the extent that is possible in this city. Working out of the general LSU Health Center area downtown.

My parents recently moved to Lakeview and have been telling me that I should move either to Bayou St. John or the area near Magazine between Jefferson and Louisiana. I've been to the city many times and those areas, but I've never lived there, so I can't suss out if one is better than the other or what the pitfalls of living in either would be.

Is one of these locations better than the other? Any issues to be aware with or places to avoid or focus on? I know both are good areas in general but looking for any advice, suggestions, or warnings folks might be willing to share.

Rental market timing question

I'm moving to NOLA in August. I'm born and raised in a city where apartment rental stock is low, demand is high, and places go months in advance. I've been looking on Zillow, but it's hard to get a sense of how things are paced in New Orleans. What is the general lay of the land with timing on the rental market? How far out in advance do places typically rent? Do I need to be ready to move in early June? I'm going to have to use a rental agent to look at places for me (circumstances beyond my control, can't get down there until I'm actually moving) so I want to make sure I'm engaging one with enough time to have options.

Any other advice or tricks to avoid getting scammed are also appreciated.

I am a first year planning to leave my firm in a few months to do a very different kind of law in a very different state- not going to a competitor firm or doing anything in the realm of what I do now (I accepted a dream job in public interest). Although a lot of people have left my group since I started, I didn't know any of them and I don't have anyone's brain to pick about the actual process of leaving before I do it. I know there is an email to an HR-type person and notifying the people you're on matters with that you're leaving, but beyond that- is there anything that you wish you were prepared for when you left your firm? Things you should have anticipated or wish someone warned you about? Advice for how to do it? Random, small things that took up a lot of time and energy? I know I am very replaceable and don't feel any guilt over leaving, but the process itself is a little anxiety inducing and the vibes in the group overall are bad.
