Cincinnati bus - A way out of the city.

Cincinnati bus - A way out of the city.

A little modification to the plow and some additional protection around the outside. 6x6x10x10 wire aught to do the trick. Maybe double that for 3x3x10x10 wire. A ladder to go in and out through the roof.

Torque isn't a problem.

You are at a meeting on the 12th floor of a typical office building in a major city. You meeting an attorney about an inheritance when you get the news.

You are at a meeting on the 12th floor of a typical office building in a major city meeting an attorney about an inheritance when you get the news. This is the attorney for the estate. You just met him in person today. Some uncle you never met had a pretty big inheritance for you. No use now...

The city (million population plus) is the nearest city to your house of the size. You are downtown. You have your spouse with you.

Everyone's phone goes off. By the time you go to the window to look you see the carnage rampaging down the street.

What is your plan???

When you think about the Zombie Apocalypse - How Urban is your setting?

How Urban is your setting?

  1. Center of a huge City.
  2. Suburb to a huge city.
  3. Medium city (100,000 population prior),
  4. Small City (30,000 population prior),
  5. Town (5,000 population prior),
  6. Village (1,000 population prior),
  7. Rural - out on your own
  8. Or something else?

Clearing a building -- How to clear a building of Zombies.

What are you conceived strategies and tactics.

Some thoughts:

  1. Zombies may or may not lay dormant until "aroused" by whatever stimulates them.
  2. Zombies will all come at you at once and as directly as possible, once stimulated.
  3. Zombies have no concern for their well being.

Naturally, situational specifics matter. Without going too deep into the nitty gritty details, the general plan might be:

Start by opening exterior doors to lure as many out into the open as possible. Make noise to draw them out to the kill zone. If the number is larger than expected be prepared to pied-piper a very large crowd very far away to whatever kill zone/trap you have devised for very large hordes.

Safety is key. Do you know how to lure them away safely?

To my thinking, in each instance it is about luring them out of the building to a kill zone setup outside. Let nobody be in harms way at any time.

Slow and steady, with a final room-by-room clearance of stuck zombies with a team wearing full protection -- Firefighting suits/motorcycle leathers whatever is available and appropriate.

What are other thoughts on this?

Would you trust your co-worker to guard that window in a Zombie Apocalypse??? The work trust test.

The joke at my work when there is a new employee -- or really all our coworkers -- would you trust that person to guard a window or door if we saw the zombie apocalypse outside the building.

How do your coworkers stack up? How screwed are you?

My new favorite zombie apocalypse vehicle -- Lumina Innovations Electric Bulldozer.

21 mph is plenty fast for the post-apocalypse. Fully electric. Move anything, anywhere, anytime - especially a horde of zombies. With this there is no fear about being surrounded by a horde. Just drive right through and if "fast zombies" really are running at 20 mph then separate them out the back right over them.

The post apocalypse is the electric future with endless electrical production equipment available to scavenge and repurpose.

But, but what if you run out of charge???????? Fuel is a risk with any vehicle. So maybe pay attention.

Naturally getting it from the dealer would be helpful - you know, for spare parts. Like all things, there is no perfect anything in the apocalypse.

So the Zombie apocalypse is upon us. At least it sure looks like it. People are going mad in the streets biting people and the bit people are also going mad and running around trying to bite people.

But we've all seen dozens of variations on the theme. Many stories start with the characters trying to figure out what the zombies do and don't do... Every story has different rules.

  1. How long does it take to understand the rules of [this] zombie outbreak?
  2. What would you have to do to find out?
  3. Can you truly understand through observation alone?
  4. Must you run experiments to find out?
  5. How do you get it done?

Just something to think about --

  • Has anyone worked this out?
  • What do you think?

Not the universal vehicle but if you have a base within a city that is larger than your base this is a good way to get around. Explore some buildings from an upper floor. Maybe Lead some zombies into a kill zone.

Obviously stories and zombie rule sets vary, but the double articulation would stop climbing zombies from many of the popular franchises.

There are several great Cyberpunk City builds in Cities:Skylines. CS1 has countless mods like allow for flying cars and trains, assets of all types, just amazing options.

CS2 is catching up.

In the US Kwikset and Schlage are the top selling door locks. Re-keying either brand is very, very easy to do and easy to learn to do. Finding and moving them around is also very easy.

Setup safe houses, places of refuge around the town. Ground floor fully protected. Roof access with a ladder on the roof or other exit from the roof. A small store of food, water, medical care. A camera and intercom connected with the base. Steel door / steel door frame with a deadbolt lock of either Kwikset or Schlage. Color code the door. Everyone carries two keys and must practice to be quick at getting through a deadbolt door before being allowed to enter the world. From the interior there would be a second deadbolt (without exterior lock) to double the strength and also in case of raiders who have lifted the keys.

Since zombies move around people might be out and about when they encounter the Zs. If necessary there is always a quick safe house to wait while the zombie clearance team can arrive with full battle equipment.

Also, within the base, every door is always deadbolt locked.

While the world is a big place, humans are making greater and greater demands on the same areas of land. "This means that, unless we use the same land to serve multiple needs and coordinate this effort through planning, it is unlikely that we will have enough land for conservation, food and energy," said Grace Wu, a professor in UC Santa Barbara's Environmental Studies Program.
