Finding misplaced followers?

I told the Six Fay Stilt priest to wait in a random desert tile, and left the desert.

Is there a good way to find him again, or is he effectively lost forever unless I comb the desert very thoroughly?

He was water bonded, if that matters.

How do you decide on what weapons to specialize in in a build?

So, my first character was with a slightly modified Marshtaur. The strongly encourages axes, so that was simple. My first True Kin was inspired when I saw the Gun Rack cybernetic (and even further improved when I heard about Giant Hands)

But what about characters whose 'build concept' (i.e. the bit that got you excited to try them) that doesn't include a primary weapon? What weapons do you choose to select to optimize what you already have?

Best I can see, Multi-weapon fighting is really best for Chimeras, or multi-arm users (or style points). Otherwise Single Weapon is better. So that's an easy call. But here's what I see about the other weapons.

Axes - All in on murder. Chopping enemies up and even getting some insta-kills.

Maces - Defensive, thanks to all the stuns and the knockback.

Swords - Passive defense in Defensive Stance and good utility in Lunge and Swipe. If your relying on guns, then simply having Defensive Stance while you shoot is good. Also good for low strength builds, thanks to Vibroblades and Aggressive Stance. Overall the most versatile weapon and always a decent choice no matter your build

Short Blades - Not to sure on this one. Seems really good as a second melee weapon style if you're going for multi-weapons.

Rifles - Basically no investment needed since you only need the category itself and maybe Suppressive Fire. Easy choice for secondary weapon, especially if the character is low Intelligence.

Pistols - High investment gun build. Barring some crazy stuff with Gun Rack and/or Giant Hands, the best option for a Gun-focused build.

Heavy Weapons - I don't know enough about these... but seems like they're meant to compliment higher strength builds. Or if you want to be absurd and quad-wield them as a True Kin.

Shields - Worth investing in Shield Bash just to use on Charge with a Steel Buckler. Non-bucklers don't seem common or worth it early game so far.

Thoughts on this one? I feel like I have a very shallow understanding of weapons and what to choose.

Unstable Esper starting build?

What's a good starting build for an Esper that goes gambling on Unstable Genome? There's a lot of really nice expensive Mental Mutations that are worth trying to squeeze in more of with Unstable Genome and Esper locked down, but I want to have a basic stable 'core' first, rather than go with the nutso Unstable 5 and Migraines build.

My thought was to get Metal Mirror and Sense Psychic for helping with Esper Hunters. And then with Blinking Tic I could get Clairvoyance and 3 UG. On the other hand, Force Bubble is the ultimate panic button, and I could swap out Clairvoyance and get Telepathy and Force Bubble at the cost of one UG.

Alternatively, I could just go for Bubble alone since it and Recoil is such a get out of jail free card (most of the time) that I don't need Mental Mirror, and can grab just that and maybe Sense Psychic (or swap to a weaker defect, or a stronger one and get Mental Mirror).

Overall, I want the build to have at 2-4 UG. Fewer UG should be accompanied by Powers that require no investment, making it easier to justify spending mutation points on more spells later. The Mental Mirror and Force Bubble option only has 2 UG, but both of those power are fine enough at base.

Killing the third troll

So this thing was the death of my first character. I actually had bypassed her with phase, but I wanted to fight her so I could understand for future characters. I got to her with phase again, but the point stands.

She ignores armor, but doesn't have ranged attacks, I think. As such guns and kiting should do the trick. This character has multiple legs AND wings so the kiting should be fine. No way to SEE her, but a Minigun doesn't need to see.

Is that all fine? And I think kiting is the baseline solution, it's just that characters without high MS would want to use things like stun grenade or something to slow her down.

How are Heavy Weapons?

I just hacked a Chaingun off of a turret. One more reason to love Axes. I had just obtained the Sparbine, and I'm wondering if this is a better choice. No investment in either Rifles or Heavy Weapons yet. The character is a melee primary user. I do have a few other things to spend points on while this thing demands immediate attention just for the carry weight if nothing else. I don't have Multiple Legs on this character so the movespeed penalty is definitely a consideration.

Safe Storage other than chests?

So I see in past posts that everyone is talking about using chests for safe storage. Pop one next to a recoil point, merchant, whatever and it will stay there safe forever.

Curious as to if other places are stable? I thought it would be appropriate to store my cybernetics in the Cyberrack at Grits Gate. Is that safe, or should I put a chest there instead?

So... Dromad Warden. Selling Zetachrome. In the starting town.

I have never felt the need to pick up Snake Oiler so fast in my life. This save file also collected an ASTOUNDING amount of books from some ruins. Waited until after Golgatha to turn them in, but I am now going to bully the crap out of some goats.

Think I've got a good starting character finally

I'm sure this isn't revolutionary, but I think I've finally got something that plays well from the start and probably has good growth potential. I think.

Greybeard is chosen for the +3 Will bonus. At level 30 Flaming Ray will cap it's cooldown at 5 without any additional attribute point investment. However, Greybeard having access to the hard to get Calloused skill ain't exactly bad either. Flaming Ray will get at least the first Rapid Advancement.

Double Muscled exists both to make up for the Greybeards strength penalty, and to stack with clubs, which they get a free 50 points in. Sunder Mind was chosen on it's own, but I wanted to justify boosting Ego, so I also picked up Clairvoyance, and rounded out with Teleport Other as a cheap panic button. Amphibious was taken because I'm still learning the game and it's clearly OP and I'm not touching the more interesting downsides until I beat the game at least once :D It totally would have been spontaneous combustion though.

Intelligence got dumped because a lot of combat ability is coming from Mutations, so I don't need the skill points. Toughness got dumped over Agility because there are a lot of good Agility skills I didn't want to wait forever for. Ego got my level 3 attribute point, but my level 9 one will go into Intelligence for earlier basic Tinkering. I MAY put more points into Willpower if I get some other skills or Mutations that warrant it, but probably not. More Ego might be warranted if I get a good Mental Mutation. Yes, I am aware of Glimmer, though I suspect if I approach it from 4 Mental Mutations scaling almost entirely on Ego, I'll probably overpower whatever 20 Glimmer enemies come up.

Mutation points are spread out neatly but Clairvoyance and Teleport Other are probably just going to be ignored and left to level up on Ego. Flaming Ray is the cornerstone so it'll be maxed out. I think I'll try to pick up a fresh Mutation before level 15 for an alternative Rapid Advancement choice. Otherwise probably Double-Muscled, which will also be maxed out eventually. I've got a point in Sunder Mind, but further investment may be put on hold for the extra Mutation pick. Even at Rank 4 or 5, it's doing massive damage at long range. First choice for random mutation will be something mobility or tankiness based. Not sure if I'd take Carapace if I got it, that's a bit commitment on Mutation points, but I suppose none of my mutations have vital benchmarks, so

Grabbed Snake Oiler, and will focus my combat skill points into Single Weapon Fighting with Cudgel and Shield. Will curry favor with the Mechanists wherever possible to earn Proselytize.

Named Harry Dresden, because he's famous for setting things on fire, clairvoyance spells, beating people with staffs and having inhuman willpower. If I got Two Hearts the extra Toughness and Sprint distance would really help to round things out. And I grabbed the Firefrond sprite, because I could. I do wish the Switch version would add more customizable character sprite options, but that'll do for now.

All sound like a good plan?

Horns AV problem?

Horns Mutation description said it should have 2 AV at rank 4. However it's showing in inventory as only 1 AV. As in the actual 'equipment' is showing 1 AV. Not a matter of having two heads.

On the last version of this character, the horns upgraded after I spent mutation points on some other things. But they didn't do it this time. Any ideas?

Edit: So the current character has the bug fixed, but this seems recreateable.

Character is a warden with 16 ego and will and 18 everything else. Mutations are paralysis stinger, wings, double muscles and antlers with tonic allergy and night vision. Antlers reaches rank 4 through first rapid development. If there's a pattern to when it resolves I haven't found it.

I am playing on Switch, and the character is recreated from a saved build each time.

Does anyone else feel the need to restart their initial villages for aesthetics or sanity?

If it weren't for the copper wire quest, I'd pick Joppa every time. My past few villages include a fungal infection granting warden, a robot mayor I couldn't water ritual, and one so covered in brambles that my first action wasn't auto explore, but me actually having to chop down the endless sea of mushrooms and brambles just to walk around.

Not to mention several having the recoiler quest be of the "please search 45 zones for something" variety which may or may not be in the difficult to navigate canyons rather than simple open fields.

It's enough to drive a man to drink. Devs, please make the starter villages less awful.

So, someone in another thread just explained that Melee is something you get to use in some cases, but not always. And I've been coming to understand that overall.

But the more I look at the game, I'm wondering when DO you use melee over just guns (Or Sunder Mind / Light Manipulation)? What is the advantage in doing more than just specializing in guns with maybe some Long Blade training for Defensive Stance? Especially since melee wants Strength, and if you're just relying on guns, it's okay to dump strength a little bit (even if that just means 14-15 instead of 16) for extra points to reach your Agility 29 skills, or high Ego score, sooner.

Just trying to figure the game out, I've got a couple of gun characters at level 10 I'd been playing on the side before my first character died to Bethesda Susa, and trying to put a melee character back into the list is proving tricky to understand how to build him at creation.

I don't mean how to see him. I mean how to kill him even when you CAN see him.

I had actually just cheated past him previously using Phasing. However I was still having problem in Bethesda Susa (Much) further down, so not knowing what was next, I ported out for a bit of a break. While out there I found some night vision goggles. Wonderful! I figured I'd go and kill him properly to see what he drops, and maybe get an idea for future characters.

I got beat down to 3 HP. So I decided it wasn't worth it. Sprinted and phased through the walls, and started to rest.

And then he somehow attacked me again and my first characters impressive run finally came to an end.

So uh... what?

How did he hit me? I was safe in this room before. And how do I actually fight this thing? Should I have just kept my distance and shoot him? I'm curious as to how you do that on your average character who doesn't have various gap-maintainers. This character could have done it had I known better. I guess I could specifically look for and save various grenades or artifacts for this fight specifically.

Also this character had Carapace, so I had high built in cold resist. How much cold resist should I have before going here to not die of freezing to death?

Okay, is this being worded weirdly? Or is this Salt Weep basically impossible to find with those directions? It's important because the village offering this quest will teach me Shield Wall for 200 Rep, and I can't seem to trade secrets with the elder, so that's not an option.

A random village in the salt marshes spawned with an error message and it's just dots.

Reloading the save didn't fix it. Any potential issue here, or is it okay if I ignore this missing city? I'm only level 4, might as well restart maybe.

Playing in Switch and I don't see any way to examine a vendors artifacts. If it's a tinker I can pay them to tell me what the item is... But that's not exactly ideal.

Got to what I think was the bottom of golgatha (first time, playing on Switch 1).. and my game crashed taking me to the surface.

I didn't have trouble getting there and should be able to do it faster now that I know the chute spiders are endless, but it's still a loss of progress. I heard someone say you can just set the game to save more often, but I don't see that option. I'm currently on Roguelike, if that matters.

The thread from two months ago suggests there were some stability issues. How is that these days? I haven't played the game yet, but I'd prefer to have it on something portable if it runs well. A friend of mine said the controls are great for Steam Deck so I assume the same thing applies, but I can stick to playing some more Tales of Maj'eyal while the jank is worked out if that's still in the process. Or else just pick up the PC version.

Edit: Seems like it's fine enough. Janky but mostly harmless. How are the devs? Do you guys trust them to iron out the problems, or is this just a "put it out, but we're only really concerned with the PC version" kind of thing? Im guessing this is a s.all company, so I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to spend too much time fixing a switch release.
