Life In The Canopy - Concept DLC

After seeing so many good ideas on this sub, I decided to come up with my first DLC concept. I have to say, I had a lot of fun making it

I looked for a theme that steered clear of water, an element that has been quite common in previous DLCs. I also search flr species that fit this theme, had potential for great dimorphism and could serve as realistic alternatives to species already in the game. I would love to see a Mamenchisaurid created by Frontier's current team, not to mention that since the feathered species DLC none of their pterosaurs have missed the mark. Yi is here to offer a unique and more complex variety within the pack

Vertical perches are there to add a bit more variety to the aviaries and make room for more small species, also iincluding the insect feeder opens the door to more insectivorous species in future DLCs

The appeal of the most recent species

This DLC introduced five truly remarkable species. I think the appeal of the new species is quite good this time around

The appeal of the three new crocs make sense, Styxo remains the most famous plesiosaur and Shoni has returned with a well-deserved buff

The one that surprises is Elasmosaurus. It has returned with exactly the same appeal as in the previous game, and what used to be an average rating now makes it stand out significantly among its relatives, specially Attenborosaurus

Make way for the real CROCS

The only way to get me using this thing again is with a variant based on the Jurassic World website

Take note Frontier

Frontier forgot to upload the Desmatosuchus section in the database

Already 20 minutes and the egg icon still there lol

Edit: an hour later and Desmatosuchus still missing

Edit 2: two hours and nothing 💀

Edit 3: three hours later and they finally remembered the password!!!

Let's talk about the whale-sized reptile in the room

Something I’ve really hated since the second game is how one of the largest marine animals, not just in the game, but in history... has such little appeal

It’s the second large species with the least appeal on the marine roster, a total injustice for such a wonderful creature. I hope they buff it in this game

Still not fan of the idea, but I think it would be more fair

From the moment it was announced that the base species from Evo2 would return for free and the fate of the DLC species remained up in the air, I knew immediately that a huge number of opportunities to improve species that needed it would be lost. After all, what were the odds that free species would return with improvements? There was a glimmer of hope, and Liopleurodon buried it completely. Then there was the hope that Frontier would see the positive reactions to the free return of Deino and Minmi and that he might consider it a good idea to ad them for free after all base game species returned, but Styxo and Shoni dashed those hopes

So, all things considered, I think separating the species that are returning for free from those that require payment based solely on the "base game" and "DLC" labels was lame. It would have been far better to split the returning species into different categories: keeping species that don't need many changes (like Dsungaripterus, Torosaurus or Styxo) as free additions, while designating species that would greatly benefit from new variants and adjustments as paid content, regardless of whether they were originally base-game or DLC species (Lio, Carcha or Nycto)

I highly doubt anyone here wants to pay extra for Huayangosaurus, or even receive it as a "special" gift that takes the place of literally any other better species

Deinonychus family unit oficially revealed!!!

Love it, this DLC will have 5 species!!!

edit: two of the five species are resold (Shoni and Styxo) not buying this at launch

First look to Elasmosaurus family unit

The adult appears to be the same, although fortunately the baby doesn't have those ugly spikes

Sure that it won't be overshadowed by our new Crocodile 👀

Oddities with the appeal of the Pachys

Pachycephalosaurus!!! The largest and most famous member of its clade, not to mention that in-universe it was one of the few species that managed to be on public display before the fall of JW, so it's is completely natural for it to be the most appealing pachycephalosaurid in the first game

But what is this? It turns out that in Evo2, all the Pachys (except Homalocephale lol) got a buff, with Stygi and Dracorex ended up with more appeal than Pachycephalosaurus itself. As for Stygi? Well, we can assume that after the events of Fallen Kingdom this species gained considerable popularity thanks to the black market, as seen in the Netflix series and Dominion, we could also add that their horns are quite striking.... But Dracorex??? It should function as an early-game species, I don't see any reason for it to be more popular than THE Pachy

The thing is that when Evo3 arrive, only three Pachys made it into the base game here, so we had to wait a few months for Dracorex to complete the group. When Dracorex finally returned, it turned out it came back with an appeal just like Stygi's!!!??? It’s pretty insane considering it isn't the most popular species irl or in-universe, or that it lacks anything to make it stand out more than Stygi and Pachy themselves. You could say that in-universe, Dracorex has gained quite a few fans over the time

Thanks for reading this far!!! I just wanted to highlight how strange the appeal of this ornithischian lineage has been throughout the saga. The only member that has managed to remain consistent over time is Homalocephale. Why do you think Dracorex gained so much appeal? Rather than just a lack of attention to detail on Frontier's part, I believe it was due to its brief but impactful appearance in Fallen Kingdom. It took a while for fans to recognize it, but better late than never

While the educational intent is certainly appreciated, the information is somewhat outdated

First of all, this isn't a post to attack Frontier (the poor intern must already be quite overwhelmed by the requests made on every one of their posts, lol). This is simply to clarify information that some enthusiasts still believe

It was 2012, and there was a surge in identifying dinosaur species that turned out to be juvenile forms of already known dinosaurs (like Nanotyrannus being juveniles of Tyrannosaurus, or Dracorex and Stygimoloch being juveniles of Pachycephalosaurus). Amidst this, Jack Horner and John Scanella proposed that Torosaurus was actually the aged (and final) form in the developmental sequence of Triceratops. While the other examples were accepted as juvenile forms (supported by evidence AT THE TIME, we kwon what happened with Nanotyrannus) and subsequently invalidated, the case of Torosaurus sparked considerable debate. Finally, in 2022, the first histologically examined remains of subadult Torosaurus were discovered (meaning the tissue was analyzed, leading to the conclusion that they were still in a growth phase). These young specimens do not exhibit Triceratops morphology, consequently, they confirm that Torosaurus latus is indeed a valid taxon, putting an end to a decade of debate

A brighter future for our last base game Ceratopsid

Thanks to the latest update, we could see that Frontier hasn't forgotten how to create good dimorphism in ceratopsids, which gives our final member, Pentaceratops, a great opportunity to shine in the future

How do you think Penta's family unit will look??? I hope for a stunning new pattern and colors for the frill of the male and a baby without an overly developed frill
