Started a Consulting Firm — Trying to Figure Out the Smartest Way to Grow It

Hi everyone,

I recently launched a healthcare/public health consulting firm. My background is in healthcare operations, public health programs, emergency response, and project management.

I’ve already handled most of the setup side:

- LLC

- EIN

- SAM.gov

- SBA certification applications

- Capability statement

- Business banking/website/email setup

Now, I’m trying to move from “registered business” to actually generating clients/contracts.

I’m currently exploring government contracting, subcontracting, and consulting partnerships, but I’d love advice from other small business owners on:

What helped you get your first real clients?

Best networking strategies that actually worked?

Biggest mistakes new consulting firms make?

How long did it take before your business gained traction?

Would appreciate honest advice from people who’ve been through the early stages already.

Thanks!

New Small Consulting Firm Trying to Break Into Government Contracting — Advice?

Hi everyone,

I recently launched a small healthcare/public health consulting firm. My background is in healthcare operations, public health programs, emergency response, and project management (PMP/MPH).

I already completed:

- LLC formation

- EIN

- SAM.gov registration

- SBA certification applications

- Capability statement

Now, I’m trying to figure out the smartest next move to actually win work.

For those already in government contracting:

How did you get your first contract/subcontract?

Is teaming/subcontracting the best path at the beginning?

Best way to connect with primes?

Any advice for healthcare/public health consulting specifically?

I’d appreciate any realistic advice, lessons learned, or recommendations.

Thanks!

Small Consulting Firm Trying to Break Into UN Consulting/Procurement — Advice?

Hi everyone,

I recently launched a small business focused on public health and healthcare operations consulting. I have a background in public health programs, healthcare operations, emergency response, and project management (PMP/MPH).

I already completed my UNGM registration and recently started applying to UN consulting/procurement opportunities as a small firm.

For those who have worked with the UN as consultants, vendors, or subcontractors:

How did you get your first opportunity?

Is partnering/subcontracting with larger firms the best starting point?

Any advice for small businesses trying to enter the UN space?

What helped you stand out in proposals?

Would really appreciate realistic advice or lessons learned from people already in this field.

Thank you!
