I loathe networking, please help
Okay, so I recently switched to Allo fiber from Xfinity. They provided us with a router, to say it kindly, it’s a POS. Random drops, weird hangups/lag while loading, horrible service upstairs one second, 500mbps the next. So I complained and they gave me an extender of some sort (gigaspire blast), didn’t really do anything. So I made up an Ethernet (cat5e) out of some left over wire I had (electrician) to see if hardwiring it would help, it didn’t. Complained to Allo again, they did an “update,” still sucks. Main box is in the middle of the first floor, second box is on the 2nd floor maybe 25 feet away up the stairs. House is tiny, 2 floors, 1,900 sq ft. I wonder if some of the issues is I can’t control a single thing with the router and force things to stay on a band. It’s me and my wife and a handful of connected devices, TV streaming and my Xbox/PS5. We’re not power users, we just want stability.
Couple of questions:
What is my best option? My original thought was to get a tri-band mesh and I can fish a permanent cat 6 Ethernet upstairs somehow to give them a wired back haul.
*Brand recommendations? I see Netgear, Asus, Eero show up on google, but I don’t necessarily trust that.
Or would it be easier/cheaper/more reliable to just buy a tri band router and run a cable and get a wired access point? I assume this is best for performance. I just don’t know what you would use as an access point? Just a 2nd matching router?
Viator offer 40% makes no sense
Are my comprehension skills lacking? What am I going to buy if literally everything they exist for is excluded? Im struggling to think of anything that would qualify lol.
Another reason why I don’t do much side work.
Aside from generally just not wanting to work my life away, people are so annoying lol. Awhile back I was considering doing my own thing and started to set it up with a listing on google and then ultimately didn’t follow through. So my name is on google and they refuse to remove it so I get random calls. This woman calls me yesterday and I explain to her I’m not really doing my own company but I ask her what she needs. She wants a hot tub wired and the circuit ran, she lives 10 minutes from my house so I said sure I’ll take a look.
Essentially come out of panel with 1” conduit a couple feet to LB into crawl space and pull some 4 wire #4 SER copper about 40-50’, pop out opposite side. LB up the wall with 1” to the Spa disconnect, flex the whatever 10-15’, wire it all up. 4 wire hot tub. Whatever, easy install.
I tell her I’ll help her out and I won’t even markup parts because she seemed nice. I told her $4-500 for parts maybe, just a general estimate but it’s a good ballpark. Then I tell her, I’ll help you out for $600. So you’re probably looking at $1000-1,100, if the parts are a bit more I can’t really control that variable as they cost what they cost.
This woman looked at me like I was the biggest thief alive and all she says is, “okay, well I have your number.”
Well, you can lose it lol because I was trying to be really nice to you.
Dad’s dog did this to his other dog and he’s convinced it’s from playing.
I’ll keep it as short as possible, not sure this is even the right sub…dog who did this is really mild mannered, hyper but not aggressive in anyway. First picture was like a week ago and then he did the same today. He actually ripped off a shirt they had the dog wearing to do this. My dad is convinced it’s affection or playing. The hurt dog is a blind, 16 year old, he hasn’t played in years.
I don’t think the other dog is vicious in anyway but I don’t see how this is playing or affection. My dogs nibble or “cob” and they’ve never ripped each others or my skin off.
Ever had one of those weeks where you can do nothing right?
That’s me, that’s this week and it’s only Tuesday afternoon. I’m admitting defeat to this week and just going to try and be better the rest of it.
Remember apprentices, no matter how long you do this (14 years) and no matter what license you do or don’t carry (masters), we all fuck up on even the most mundane and simplest of tasks lol.
I’m so embarrassed by what I’ve done I can’t even find the strength to admit to it. Just know, I’m a shit stupid moron this week. 🤦♂️
::insert game of thrones shame gif::
I know this sub doesn’t love resin…1st ever big project I’ve done.
I know epoxy isn’t the most popular thing here but I just finished my dining room table. I got walnut from a local wood shop near me with the live edge still on. I cleaned it all up and then used resin on it to keep it from falling off long term. Once I was done with that I built a custom box for my table size, coated it in tyvek tape and used total boat fathom deep pour epoxy. I’ve never even touched epoxy before in my life but I’m just kind of a jump in feet first kind of person. Epoxy sat for about a week while I was out of town, it sank some under the wood in the mold so I ended up just sanding it and pouring another layer. I let that sit for a week before I did my best to plane and level it and then sand it from 80-5000grit. I considered wood legs but I think metal matched our home decor better. I ordered them from the Carolina Leg Co. and they’re really good quality so I was happy with my choice on that.
I’m happy with it, I’ve never really made anything like this before and I learned a lot.
Maintenance guys crack me up
Apparently if it fits and turns on it’s compatible! Old challenger panel had Siemens, GE, Square D, Eaton and Challenger breakers. They have an enter Siemens panel full of Square D homeline breakers too.
My boss decided to throw this in my face today 😭
I’m not going to give out too many details. Gabe does a lot of business with us, of course that never includes me lol. He’s standing next to me today and says, “oh look, Landeskog is texting me.”
I was just punching air. 😑
So this is a scheduled loss?
Get your hard alcohol ready, you’re going to need a drink tonight ladies and gentleman.
How old do we think this is?
Can’t find anything on Google, I’d bet sometimes in the late 70’s to mid-80’s? I can’t believe it lasted this long lol.
